SASI takes out FFA State Institute Challenge in Canberra

Although the ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS) team was ahead of SASI on goal difference at the completion of their fixtures, in a new innovation, the FFA Technical Committee awarded SASI an additional 5 bonus points for the quality of their play being the most in line with the principles of the National Football Curriculum, whilst ACTAS received an additional 3 points and New South Wales Institute of Sport (Northern) (NNSWIS) an additional 1 bonus point.
In the special last match of the tournament, the SASI team drew 1-1 with the All Star team in a fitting end to the competition.
SASI collected further accolades when midfielder Jacob Melling was named the player of the tournament, striker Jordan Kallios took out the Golden Boot award with five goals and Tony Vidmar collected the Coach of the Tournament Award. Jakob Smith from the Queensland Academy of Sport picked up the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award to prevent a SASI clean sweep.
Speaking at the conclusion of the tournament, FFA National Technical Director Han Berger, was extremely happy with the standard of competition and the positive results that were observed through the implementation of the new innovations.
?The new concepts that we introduced for this tournament definitely changed the dynamic of the competition and the player and coaches all responded very well,? said Berger.
?The purpose of these innovations was to help facilitate the development of the players towards a style of play that is focussed on effective possession.
?These changes are necessary to help us create players that can be successful in the modern game, and I believe that after seeing how these players have adapted that we are on the right path,? concluded Berger
