Quake crowned champs in 2010 as Allstars humbled 4-0

The Allstars came into the game with the weight of expectation as minor premiers and first into the final but were left frustrated as their shots were continually blocked by the defence or were saved by Gavin O?Brien who had a fine game in goal.
The Quake signalled their intent right fro the opening whistle began the scoring as early as the 2nd minute when David Van Dinklage came up from defence and played a nice one-two with Mark Symington then smashed the ball low and hard across the keeper into the net.
Shortly after Van Dinklage found free space again and almost made it two but for an excellent defensive block from Jacob Di Mento.
The Quake really muscled up in defence and met fire with fire as their defensive organisation and determination frustrated the Allstars from breaking through with real threatening attempts on goal.
The Allstars were constantly trying to step up the pace to break the Quake down and in the 8th minute Jacob Di Mento broke through for the Allstars first real threat on goal but his shot did not trouble the keeper and later Adrian Vizzari found Jacob Di Mento but his shot was forced away for a corner.
Shane Soutter came agonisingly close for the Quake when he stepped onto his right foot and crashed his shot onto the crossbar.
In one of the game defining moments Adrian Vizzari got in behind the defence and hit his shot goalwards but Gavin O?Brien brilliantly thrust out a hand and deflected it onto the post. The ball trickled along the goaline and was cleared away but it summed up that it perhaps was not going to be the Allstars day.
Moments later the Allstars received a freekick on the edge of the area and Gavin O?Brien broke from the wall and made a point blank save that exemplified the Quakes determination to shut out the opposition on the day.
The Quake were always dangerous on the break and Pablo Alcantara hit a cross shot just wide and shortly after Robbie Maiorana brilliantly tipped a Dean Lockhart shot over.
In the 18th minute the Quake scored an excellent second goal. They found space down the left and the ball was fed quickly inside to Danny Martinez who immediately teed up Ian McAndrew on the right who lashed his shot into the net to make it 2-0 for a memorable goal.
Shane Ardle made a great run forward and slammed his shot goalward but O?Brien brilliantly parried the ball down and Adrian Vizzari was on hand but could not turn the ball into the net as the Allstars came agonisingly close again. On any other day this would have gone in.
The Allstars came out for the second half in offensive mood and looked to up the pace again to get back into the game.
Ediz Alkaya shot just wide, Ben Lam?s shot was saved and Adrian Vizzari had a saved by O?Brien but the defence was on hand to scramble the ball away.
Robbie Maiorana did well to push a Shane Soutter shot away, an Ediz Alpkaya turn and shot was saved, Ian McAndrew shot just wide after a pass from Dean Lockhart, Jacob Di Mento shot just wide and Maiorana made an outstanding save to deny Tuan Cao.
The game was going from end to end but as the minutes ticked away the Allstars couldn?t find their killer touch and their frustration grew as the Quake were dominating the game.
With 10 minutes left the Quake contingent erupted into sheer joy as Danny Martinez stole down the left side held off the defence and scooped the ball across the area for David Van Dinklage to run on to it and belt the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The Allstars frustration was just festering under the surface and boiled over when Shane Ardle was red carded for a nasty challenge on Tuan Cao.
Tuan Cao had the last laugh as minutes later he swept the ball home to give Campbelltown a virtual unassailable 4-0 lead.
Jacob Di Mento hit a volley just over then shortly after had a shot saved by O?Brien.
In the dying minutes the Allstars frustration boiled over again when Robbie Maiorana was red carded for a rash crash tackle on Tuan Cao outside the box that left the Quake star in pain which eventually led to him being taken to hospital.
As the final whistle blew the Quake celebrated a deserved victory. They came in as underdogs (though only just having being beaten on penalties in the semi) and walked away clear victors.
Led by Dean Lockhart at the back they seemed to approach the game with a definite confidence as they matched the Allstars physically, shut down their ball runners and turned defence into attack with ruthless precision.
The week did not start well for the Allstars with the loss of Shervin Adeli. They were behind very early in the game and fought their hearts out to get back into the match.
But the Allstars seemed intent on going forward and perhaps did not expect the defensive wall the Quake had set up.
There were two defining moments in the first half where on any other day the ball would have gone in and the game might have been very different but it was not to be. But it was a game you feel the Allstars will definitely learn from and they?ll be back.
Quake coach Ralph Capasso was naturally delighted with his young sides performance. At the start of the season some of the older players moved on and he concentrated on developing his young side along with two veterans Tuan Cao and Gavin O?Brien.
He said there was not much more he could teach his players but knew he had to instill more confidence and belief in their young minds. With the determined way the Campbelltown Quake came into this game his words worked certainly did the job.
