Mounties edged out Schofields in a see sawing, five goal thriller at CSI Sport Ground, whilst an unfortunate injury at Francis Park saw the premature end of the Blacktown Spartans-Fairfield City Lions clash.
SCHOFIELD SCORPIONS ? MOUNTIES WANDERERS 2-3
Saturday, May 1, at CSI Sport Ground
There were plenty of goals out at Schofields on Saturday night to warm up the locals as the Scorpions came from 0-2 down to restore parity, before eventually losing to Mounties in an absolute thriller.
Petrovic, an early substitute last week for injured striker team mate, Steve Biviano,  carried his good form from then into this match by opening the scoring for Mounties on 32 minutes.
Left sided midfielder, Troy McColl, an off season signing from the Scorpions, got in on the act in the 51st minute to double the visitor?s advantage by scoring against his old club.
But the Scorpions snapped into gear and equalized with two goals within twelve minutes. Lam pulled one back in the 70th minute, and Chris Theodosiou made it 2-2 in the 82nd minute with his second goal of 2010.
The Mounties weren?t finished, however, and went back in front with what proved to be the winning goal, coming in the 85th minute via the experienced Greg Baldock.
After opening the 2010 competition without a win in the first three rounds, coach Anthony Crea has upped the ante, and his Mounties side have responded by winning four matches on the trot, jumping into outright second position on the ladder on 14 points.
Schofields recent inconsistency continued with this home reverse, but the Scorpions are still well placed in third position on 13 points.
BLACKTOWN SPARTANS ? FAIRFIELD CITY LIONS Postponed
Saturday, May 1, at Francis Park No.2
The eagerly awaited match up between the undefeated Blacktown Spartans and Fairfield City Lions came to a premature end at Francis Park on Saturday night with approximately 20 minutes remaining.
Fairfield?s robust striker, Friday Jeremiah, was severely injured, and has suffered a suspected broken ankle, being taken to hospital via ambulance late in the match.
Jeremiah has been in great form this season, with five goals for Fairfield, and will be sorely missed as he undertakes an extensive recovery.
Blacktown had the better of proceedings at the point of the stoppage, leading by 3-0 against a struggling 10 man Fairfield side, however will have to wait for a decision by FNSW as to whether the result will stand, or the match will be replayed.
On behalf of everyone at Football NSW and the football community, we wish Friday Jeremiah all the very best in his recovery.
HILLS BRUMBIES ? BALMAIN SC 1-0
Saturday, May 1, at Second Ponds Oval
Hills Brumbies extended their lead atop of Division One to four points with a methodical 1-0 victory over Balmain SC at Second Ponds Oval on Saturday evening.
Savic got the all important goal on 52 minutes, breaking the deadlock and sending the home fans into raptures.
Hills Brumbies have now moved to 18 points, the victory giving Hills their sixth win from seven games, a remarkable turnaround given their performance in the 2009 season.
Balmain?s coach, Alex Kaltenegger, must be scratching his head following his side?s third defeat in succession, especially given their solid start to 2010 prior to that.
Balmain sits currently in ninth position on 7 points, but I?m sure Johhny Buonavoglia and co will be back amongst the winners sooner rather than later in the coming weeks.
STANMORE HAWKS ? GLADESVILLE RYDE MAGIC 1-0
Saturday, May 1, at Arlington Oval
Stanmore Hawks have catapulted themselves into the top five with a narrow 1-0 home win against Gladesville Ryde Magic at Arlington Oval.
Their fourth win in their last five outings sees Stanmore climb to 13 points in equal third position, and fifth on goal differential.
The standout Hawk has been none other than their sharp shooter, Wasim Hijazi, who scored his 8th goal of the season in the 23rd minute to give his side the three points against the plucky Gladesville side.
Every successful side usually have a striker with a nose for goals spearheading their performances, and Hijazi is the man for Stanmore with an average of above a goal per game this season.
Gladesville remain one of two teams yet to register a victory this season, but their performances have been promising, and I?m sure they will break their duck very, very soon.
HURSTVILLE ZSC ? CAMDEN TIGERS 1-5
Sunday, May 2, at Hurstville Oval
Hurstville ZSC are the other side in the Division who have yet to register a win, and are in fact pointless, following their demise at Hurstville Oval on Sunday at the hands of Camden Tigers.
They did manage to score their sixth goal of the season via Jurleta, but it is their defensive frailty which is proving their undoing, leaking 26 goals in their 7 matches thus far.
Camden contributed five of those in a dominating display, the win lifting the Tigers to eighth position on 10 points.
Smutek lead the way for Camden with a brace, giving him five goals in 2010 in Camden?s first season in Division One.
Morgan also grabbed two goals, and Mugridge got the other to give the visiting fans something to cheer on their travels.
UNSW ? INTER LIONS 1-2
Sunday, May 2, at David Phillips Field
Inter Lions inflicted more pain on UNSW at David Phillips Field on Sunday with a closely fought 2-1 away win.
Nick Tarquinio?s Inter side has hit a purple patch of late, this win being their third in a row, putting the Lions on 13 points in fourth position.
Inter?s goals came from Gonzalez and Polistina, the latter grabbing his fourth in what is proving a highly productive season for the skilful winger.
UNSW coach, Luke Andrews, has had to cope with an increasing injury list of late, and the depth of the ?students? squad has been well and truly put to the test in recent weeks.
UNSW languish in tenth position at the moment on 4 points, but the tenacity and determination they showed in the second half of 2009 will no doubt rear it?s head again as they start to make their way up the competition ladder.
