ONE TO WATCH: There could be a growing trend in Australian football with MARTIN LO leading the way. This talented 13yo Australian representative was born in Sydney of Vietnamese background and he is making huge inroads in the game. Martin started playing football just seven years ago with his local church side Guilford McGreedie but in the space of the last 12 months, he has represented NSW, Australia and is also part of Project 22, where he trains four times a week. Martin is also a Year Seven student at the famous Westfield High School, who’s most famous student was a Socceroo by the name of Harry Kewell!!
STAR OF THE WEEK: ROBERT DI GIGLIO does not seek any attention but he is certainly one of the unsung heroes of the game working as club president for the Wenty Waratahs club in Sydney for the past 15 years. Despite a heavy workload, Robert also coaches two teams – the All Age 10s and the U/21s who have reached the 2010 NSW State Cup Final. He is also a volunteer of the local parks trust and is a member of the Wenty Waratahs parent body.
MY CLUB: It’s a very special day for FSOT as RHIANNON WILLIS takes us behind the scenes at Australia’s oldest club – Balgownie!! The famous “Rangers” were formed back in 1883 and Rhiannon, who plays in the Under 16s Girls team, is one of the 550 juniors registered with the south coast club.
CELEBRITY CHALLENGE: The boys might be setting the pace – Bondi Rescue’s Dean Gladstone (10pts) and Bondi Vet Dr Chris Brown (10pts) – but Olympic champion LIBBY TRICKETT is determined to set a new benchmark in our special penalty shoot-out. Libby, with the support of players from the football club FIVE DOCK in Sydney, is certainly as skilled on the football park as she is in an Olympic Pool!! You won’t want to miss this Celebrity Challenge!!
BONNET BAY GALA DAY: On the banks of the Woronora River in Sydney there’s a football revolution happening and BONNET BAY is leading the way. Recently, this Sutherland Association club held it’s first Gala Day for all the “Bombers” junior teams from the Under 6’s to the Under 11’s. Every game was held at the local home ground – Prince Edward Park – although there was plenty of entertainment off the field as well!!
NSW PREMIER LEAGUE: It’s the business end of the NSWPL and this week we have highlights from round 20, with our main game the top-five battle between Grand Final winners SUTHERLAND and BLACKTOWN CITY FC.
GOAL OF THE WEEK: There’s been some classic entries and we’ve decided to recap all our winners so far from the 2010 series. However, it’s hard to ignore this week’s Hummel Gift pack victor – LEON DRANSFIELD – who plays for the Umina Eagles Under Eight side on the Central Coast of NSW.
COACHING TIP: FNSW High Performance Manager PAUL BENTVELZEN has worked with many of our up and coming stars and this week, his special coaching tip is about one v one play.
