NSW Super League Midweek wrap

edit_01

The Tigers looked in control throughout although they held only a one goal lead for the majority of the game. Sydney Uni, who found themselves back in the semi final fray after many results had gone their way over the past week, needed a win here but they were to fall just short.
They went behind after a quarter of an hour after an excellent switch by Paul Davies found Tom Geekie out wide, Geekie?s cross falling to Max Glanville who smashed home from close in. Uni had a good chance to recover a few minutes later after Christian Soares battled his way through the Tigers midfield but after the ball fell to Chris Hayton, the shot was just over.
The Tigers had numerous opportunities to increase their lead in the first half, James Lowery saving well from Geekie while Glanville almost had a second when Lowery palmed onto the bar.
This was an attacking game with good end to end football as both Uni and Tigers sought to keep the goals coming. Glanville again, was just wide and Clive Delaney for Uni was just over with a header from a corner.
Lowery was to the fore again saving from Glanville, and getting his fingertips to a dangerous Davies cross. But it was due to a gut busting run by defender Rhys Williams which earned the Tigers their second. Williams charged with the ball from one penalty area to the other, dribbling straight to goal before being pulled back inside the Uni area. There was only one decision for the referee to make and a penalty it was. Davies confidently stepped up to make it 2-0.
A win for the Tigers was safe from here but they weren?t finished just yet. Glanville made it three with just a couple of minutes left and then Luke Tomich should have scored in the dying moments but for another fine save by Lowery.

St George v Macarthur Rams
The all important second spot on the table remains open until the final day after St George comfortably defeated Macarthur Rams 2-0 at an icy St George Stadium on Wednesday night.
Juan Chavez netted for the third game in a row following a good run by Peter Crevani. Crevani cut in from wide left and delivered a perfect pass to Chavez, alone in space. Chavez had time to knock the ball past Tom Romic to give the Saints a 13th minute lead.
If not for Romic though, it could have been more for St George but the Rams keeper pulled off some fine saves to deny the Saints front line. But when Christian Cevenini scored with a sublime chip in the 56th minute, the win was assured.

Dulwich Hill v Spirit FC
With the match switched to Christie Park, and Dulwich Hill bottom, Dully needed something from this game. The point earned in this 0-0 draw on Wednesday ensured that they are well in with a chance of avoiding relegation this weekend.
The point also lifts Spirit to fourth spot, their highest standing since round four.
