Lady Sky Blues thrash Melbourne 4-1

Striker Kyah Simon was the star for the champions, scoring two first half goals and terrorising the Victory defence all evening.
The Sky Blues missed a first half penalty but still led 2-1 at the break before scoring two late goals to make the points safe. The dominant win follows their 4-2 triumph in round one and extends their unbeaten streak to 13 matches with their last loss coming way back in round one of 2009/10.
Alen Stajcic?s side will host its first home game of the season this weekend, taking on Adelaide United at WIN Stadium in Wollongong (3pm kick-off) on Sunday as part of a double header with the Sky Blues National Youth League team who play Perth Glory at 12:45pm.
Both sides played some brilliant football despite the slippery conditions and it was no surprise to see Sydney come out of the blocks the quickest.
The Sydneysiders made all of the early running and should have taken the lead after just 10 minutes when Simon was brought down in the box for a penalty.
But Victory skipper Melissa Barbieri pulled of a wonderful diving save to deny Simon’s spot kick.
It was a let off for the home side but they failed to heed the warning with Simon eventually opening the scoring courtesy of a wicked long-range strike on 30 minutes that gave Barbieri no chance.
The Sky Blues lead last only one minute though as the Victory levelled via a penalty of their own through Jodie Taylor.
The goal only sprung Sydney back into life and they regained the lead as Simon completed her brace eight minutes before the break.
To the home side’s credit they took the game to Sydney in the second half but failed to create enough opportunities to threaten an equaliser.
And the Sky Blues made them pay as Kylie Ledbrook added a third five minutes from time before Catherine Canulli completed the scoring close to the end.
Simon now leads the W-League in most goals scored so far this campaign with three while the team sits comfortably a top the competition table.
