Waratah Cup Round 2 Progress Review

At Hensley Athletic Field Eastern Suburbs Association side Pagewood Botany?s run in the Cup came to an end as they were defeated by Super League outfit Granville Rage 5-0.
A stooping header from a corner by Phil Pyliotis gave Granville the lead after a hard fought opening twenty-five minutes but then Ante Bakmaz, with a good turn in the box, made it 2-0 just minutes later. Pagewood Botany gave a good account of themselves and it was only in the final twenty minutes that Granville Rage threatened to run away with it.
A Jacob Di Mento free kick was met by Adrian Aliberti who headed in for the Rage?s third on seventy minutes before Rhys Kennedy made it four with ten minutes left. Kennedy controlled the ball neatly, first time, before striking swiftly into the net.
Di Mento then scored direct from a long range free kick, evading all and sundry in the area, as the ball snuck in at the far post.
At Popondetta Park State League One side Mt Druitt Town Rangers secured a berth into the Cup?s third round with a thrilling 2-1 win over Super League side Dulwich Hill.
The home side took the lead in the 20th minute via Nathan Ralph before Dulwich Hill equalised right on full-time via Jack Long.
The game then went into extra-time and it was the Rangers who came up trumps as Thierry Huet scored the winning goal that gifted the Rangers a big victory over their former Super League rivals.
At Cook Park, State League One side Mounties Wanderers were too good for Sutherland Association?s Como West Janali as the home side romped in with a 7-0 win.
A double by Callum Rogers and goals from Troy McColl, Friday Jeremiah, Joel Rodden-Ward, Joe Andriano and Eli Squillacioti all got on the scoresheet for the home side.
Illawarra Premier League side Port Kembla progressed to the next stage of the Cup after a hard fought 2-1 win over State League One side Hurstville ZFC at Wetherill Park in Primbee.
Port Kembla enjoyed much of the possession and chances throughout the match and had Peter Richardson and 2010 Illawarra Premier League Player of the Year Matt O?Shea to thank as they notched up goals respectively.
At Ron Dine Reserve it was a State League One affair as Camden Tigers took on Fairfield City Lions.
It was the Lions though that took all the honours as they defeated the Tigers 2-1.
