Blacktown City thump sorry Bankstown

A hat-trick from Luke Roodenburg, a brace from Mitchell Duke and goals to Zac Cairncross and Travis Major (penalty) saw Blacktown home, with Hussein Salameh scoring the only goal for Bankstown via the penalty spot.
Two early goals from the home side had Bankstown City on the back foot from the get go. Inside 7? minutes, Mitchell Duke and Zac Cairncross had put the ball into the back of the net for Blacktown City. The first goal came from a run by Matt Lewis, where he beat his man on the left flank before passing it to Ray Miller who took the ball goalwards. Miller played the perfect ball across the face of goal to Duke at the far post who timed his run perfectly to slot the ball home from close range.
Within a couple of minutes Cairncross had doubled the score line with a spectacular effort. Miller played the ball across to the tall Blacktown defender who connected with the ball sweetly and beat Zlatko Joseski in the Bankstown goal from distance.
Bankstown tried to respond but could not get near the ball in attacking positions. Instead, Lewis and Milorad Simonovic combined to set up yet another chance, although this time Simonovic?s shot was deflected away from the target by a defender.
The only Bankstown player who seemed able to really disrupt the progress of the home side was Hussein Salameh who continued making runs at his target, but time and again the Blacktown defence worked as a unit to shut him down.
The sheer power of Cairncross, the presence of Patrick Gatt, and the finesse of Luke Austin seemed impenetrable at times in the first-half.
Despite dropping back a gear, Blacktown maintained good possession and when they were ready to step up again it was Simonovic and Miller who led the way.
On the half hour the two combined and Miller?s shot could only be deflected off Joseski so Blaz Dejanovic had to clear the ball off the line. Then 2? minutes later, Travis Major chipped his marker and broke clear, playing the ball not only past the keeper, but also the wrong side of the far post.
Again the response came from Salameh, this time forcing confusion between Gatt and Jaeger at the back for Blacktown. In this instance, though, Jaeger demonstrated great skill in rounding his opponent and collecting the ball without conceding a foul, something that would occur later in the match.
The ball broke to the other end where Duke chipped the ball to Luke Roodenburg who headed the ball at the near post, past the keeper, but too close to the near post as it bounced away off the base of the up right.
On 38? minutes, the third goal came as Roodenburg ran on to a simple through ball and he coolly dispatched it into the far corner along the ground. For Blacktown and Roodenburg it was not the end of the half?s action as in the 42? minute, Simonovic and Miller combined once more as Miller put the ball to the near post where Roodenburg crashed through to put the ball in the back of the net for the fourth time in the half.
A late shot from Salameh that curled off target was a reminder to the home side that Bankstown still posed some threat in the second-half, however 5? minutes into the half and any thoughts of any kind of four goal miracle was put away when Blacktown scored again. Matt Lewis had played the ball to Simonovic who forced a great save out of Joseski. The resultant corner saw Lewis play it to Simonovic once more but this time he played it back into the area where Roodenburg headed the ball home for a hat-trick, 12? minutes in the making.
For Roodenburg it was a job well done and he was replaced on the hour by Sean Rooney. However, in that time, he was still able to watch a Simonovic wonder strike, a skill of his which his opponents are well aware he has the capability of, that went just over the crossbar from distance. Steve Liavas also got in on the act with a long shot but his was comfortably dealt with by Jaeger.
Blacktown then took the foot off the accelerator fractionally and Salameh and Liavas both had more space. In the 74? minute it was Salameh who earned his side a penalty when he was brought down in the area as Jaeger and his defence got tangled up with Salameh on top of them.
A minute later and Salameh had picked up a deserved goal for his own effort from that penalty.
8? minutes later the ball was on the spot again, this time at the other end, as Dejanovic had been adjudged to have fouled Simonovic in the penalty-area. Travis Major stepped up and converted the 83? minute penalty.
Then, in the 85? minute, a shot from Sean Rooney almost squeezed under Joseski. The action was not over though as right on full time Bankstown claims of a handball by Matt Pressello in his own area were dismissed by referee Andrew Best and the ball broke down the other end of the field where Duke closed off the match as he had started it, with a goal, although this time he scored with a great header.
The final score of 7-1 was one of the worst final results for Bankstown in living memory. Zlatko Joseski commented after the match:
?That is the worst result for the club in my 13 year here. We had about eight players out tonight for a variety of reasons and we will get a few of them back so we need to look forward.
?Next week is a fresh week and we have to treat it that way.?
Mark Crittenden from Blacktown City was also not playing up the result too much: ?For the first 20? minutes I thought we played really well but then we took our foot off the pedal.
?We knew tonight would be a tough game, derbies against Bankstown always are, and we played well. Overall we have a tough month ahead of us and this was a good start for us.?
In the Grade-20 division, Blacktown City FC defeated Bankstown City 2-0.
