Youth takes centre stage in FFA State Institute Challenge

This week sees the Australia?s best young footballers participate in the Football Federation Australia State Institute Challenge.
The tournament is held annually whereby each Member Federation enters a team of players aged 16 years and under and was created to further develop and foster the skills of the country?s future talent.
All teams play against each other once during the group stages with three points awarded for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a loss.
On a daily basis ‘bonus’ points will be given to the teams that played most in line with the FFA?s National Curriculum (the ability to showcase technical content in their play and proper execution of the FFA?s playing style).
The winner of the bonus points system will play against the winner of the regular group in the final this Friday.
?This tournament is not only about results but about the way teams play the game,? said FFA?s National Technical Director Han Berger.
?At this stage of development under the National Curriculum it is more important that players and teams get the right balance between results and going about it in the ?right way?.
?The balance wasn?t there a couple of years ago but we have seen a progression in standard and the whole technical staff watching the tournament has been very pleased to see this development.?
On Saturday the winner of the tournament will take on an All Stars team which is selected by the FFA Technical Committee.
The tournament results to date are listed below along with the ladder as at 12noon Wednesday 7 December 2012.
