NSW Premier League Round 2 Review

On Easter Monday, Sydney United 58 FC exacted some revenge over last season?s grand final nemesis Sydney Olympic after recording a 2-1 win at Sydney United Sports Centre.
An entertaining encounter, played with much passion on both sides, saw the Reds overturn a one-goal deficit for the win. David Gullo had the Blues ahead with a well-taken 12? minute goal, before Luka Glavas drew his side level from the penalty-spot.
The referee awarded the Reds a penalty after Blaz Dejanovic was adjudged to foul Michael Cindric.
Glavas doubled his tally on 24? minutes, converting nicely following a mazy run by Ante Tomic. Red cards to David Dascall and Steve Hayes made the closing stages a ten-on-ten battle, though the home side, much to the delight of their supporters, administered proceedings to complete the win.
At Seymour Shaw, Rockdale City Suns hosted Blacktown City FC in a home match played away from home. The former champions skipped to a 2-0 lead courtesy of a Luke Roodenburg double before the Suns hit back.
Sash Tirovski and Tom Cirjak immediately had the Suns level, before Marino Musumeci converted Cirjak?s assist for the 3-2 lead.
At the other end, Travis Major levelled proceedings with a well-taken penalty, before Japanese import Ryuji Miyazawa sealed the win with a headed goal to secure Blacktown City?s first win of the season.
In the Good Friday fixture, Marconi Stallions grabbed bragging rights over perennial rival APIA-Leichhardt Tigers with a very late goal to seal win the first ?Italian Derby? of 2012.
A rather tense encounter that produced few clear-cut opportunities came to life in the closing stages as Daniel Severino secured the Stallions second win from two matches with an exceptional set-piece delivery.
The attacking midfielder has made a name for himself in the competition with an outstanding set-piece delivery off his left boot, and his 90? minute match winner further illustrated the tremendous talent of Severino as his effort bent around the wall and into the top left-hand corner, leaving goalkeeper Anthony Costa helpless.
The Tigers did have a final chance to draw level when the referee awarded the home side a penalty deep into injury-time. Substitute Nick Rizzo stepped up to the spot, though saw his effort rebound off the post, leaving the Tigers win-less after two matches and the Stallions at the top of the ladder with all six-points taken from their first two matches.
At Bonnyrigg Sports Ground, Sutherland Sharks? poor run against the White Eagles continued with a rather heavy 3-0 loss on Saturday evening.
Bonnyrigg?s new signing Robbie Younis, fresh from netting a hat-trick in his debut match against South Coast Wolves seven-days earlier, bagged another two goals against the Sharks ? the first a sublime free-kick in the 7? minute, curled around the wall and into the top corner.
Sutherland?s response arrived via Pat Savour and Matt Bailey, though the White Eagles doubled their lead early in the second-half. Mitchell Long and Ken Chun played a neat interchange of partners before the former sent a low-driven effort past Simon Jaeger in the Sharks goal.
Bonnyrigg made it 3-0, 13? minutes from the end as Younis converted from the spot following substitute Paul Cotte?s foul on Long moments earlier.
The win sees the White Eagles on full points after two matches, much to the delight of the home supporters following an inconsistent 2011 season.
2012 new boys Blacktown Spartans recorded their first ever win in the NSW Premier League with a dream debut at the new Blacktown Football Park. The Spartans recorded an impressive 3-0 win against Parramatta FC, despite the Eagles dominating parts of the encounter.
Christopher Gomez bagged a double ? a goal on either side of half-time to put the home side in the box seat. Gomez?s first arrived in the 32? minute as he latched onto a corner before sending the ball over the goal line.
Gomez doubled his, and Blacktown?s, tally shortly after with a fine finish following some confusion in the Parramatta FC defence.
Parramatta?s best efforts to get forward and claim something from the match were all but over as Louis Bozanic?s searching ball was surprisingly bundled into his own goal by Eagles? goalkeeper Matt Nash, sparking scenes of jubilation amongst the home supporters.
On the South Coast, a fine first-half display by Trevor Morgan?s Wolves was enough to see off Manly United FC and deliver the Wollongong-based club a 2-0 win.
Goals to Sasho Petrovski and Peter Simonovski were enough in a dominant display by the Wolves.
Petrovski headed home a Nick Littler cross to open the scoring on 7? minutes before Simonovski double the advantage 7? minutes later after some fine build up with Sean Robertson.
Following the re-start, Manly United threw everything at the Wolves, led by Michael Daly. The Northern-beaches side?s best efforts however fell short as the Wolves defence, marshaled by goalkeeper Daniel Collison who was in great form, thwarted all efforts from Manly United.
