Fraser Park?s Wassim Hijazi moved clear in the goal scorers charts, his strike against the Rams being his fourth of the season.
Fraser Park v Macarthur Rams
Fraser Park moved equal top in Super League with a 1-1 draw in their rescheduled round one fixture against Macarthur Rams last Thursday night, in front of what was a strong Easter eve crowd.
And there was an early contender for goal of the season when Fraser Park?s Wassim Hijazi drew the home side level just before the break. A Macarthur corner was quickly cleared and on a very swift counter attack, Hijazi received the ball midway inside his own half. Running at three defenders, Hijazi then struck from distance, the ball swerving into the top left hand corner, leaving the Rams keeper Chad Taylor with no chance.
The goal was just the tonic that Fraser needed, having spurned an earlier opportunity to score when Paulo Oliviera had his penalty attempt saved well by Taylor. There was little argument with the penalty decision, a handball award against Callum Fleming.
Macarthur Rams had gone into an early lead after just three minutes, Stefan Donevski getting his second of the season, his shot going over Michael Frost. Donevski was always dangerous, and caused some concern to the Fraser Park defence. Donevski was later wide with a good chance, his shot misfiring past the upright.
Chances were few in the second half, although it was the visitors who came closest. A fine save by Frost denied a Michael Brown header while Frost also did well diving at the feet of Shannon Hankin.
The 1-1 draw keeps both sides undefeated with the point lifting the Rams to fifth, on goal difference.
