NSW Premier League Round 7 Review

Manly United FC scored the upset of the round defeating Sydney United 58 FC away from home ? the win incidentally the Northern Beaches side?s first of the season.
At the bottom end of the table, Parramatta FC picked up its second point of the season with a fine showing in Wollongong against South Coast Wolves, meanwhile APIA-Leichhardt Tigers and Rockdale City Suns both failed to keep the winning momentum going as the two sides played out an entertaining 1-1 draw on Friday.
APIA-Leichhardt Tigers 1 Rockdale City Suns 1
A tight contest opened Round 7 action on Friday evening between the Tigers and Suns ? both sides coming off wins in Round 6. Despite the home ground advantage, the Tigers failed to continue their fine form showed in the performance against Sydney Olympic, with John Taylor?s men made to settle for a point.
Departing Hirofumi Moriyasu, who took to the field for the Tigers for the last of his four guest appearance stints, opened the scoring early in the second-half for the home side. The midfielder?s exceptional free-kick somehow found its way through the Suns wall and into the back of the net.
Not to be outdone, Mark Rudan?s Rockdale City Suns stuck to their guns and found an equaliser from a set-piece of its own on 74? minutes. A Tomi Cirjak corner met the head of Paul Kohler at the back post; the midfielder rose highest to head the ball home for a share of the spoils.
Sutherland Sharks 3 Marconi Stallions 1
Sutherland Sharks marked their intentions for season 2012 with a workmanlike performance to overcome a Stallions outfit that came out of the gates very quickly on Saturday evening. Despite pressuring the Sharks defensive line in the opening exchanges, it was Sutherland to take the lead on 14? minutes via Blake Powell. The left-sided winger dispossessed Chris Nunes to go clear on goal and curl the ball past James Chronopoulos.
Chris Price immediately doubled the Sharks lead before the Stallions pulled a goal back late in the half. Nathan Denham parried Daniel Severino?s penalty, before denying the Stallions playmaker?s follow-up attempt. Despite the Sharks defenders scrambling back to clear the second rebound, Keith Shevlin managed to drive home to re-open the contest.
Following the break, the Sharks found their third goal, orchestrated by Panni Nikas. It was his delivery that picked out the head of Hussein Salameh who sent his glancing header into the back of the net.
Marconi had another penalty to once again get back into the match, though player of the match Nathan Denham produced another tremendous save from the spot-kick, this time denying Jamie McMaster?s effort. The win sends the Sharks into the Top-Five, however George Souris was forced to leave the field with what appears to be a medial ligament injury, taking away some of the joy from a great evening for the home side.
Bonnyrigg White Eagles 3 Blacktown Spartans 1
Bonnyrigg White Eagles put behind them the disappointment of last weekend?s first loss of the season to defeat Blacktown Spartans and further strengthen their hold on top spot.

Simon Zahra converted via the penalty-spot after Louis Bozanic was brought down inside the penalty-area, the goal arrived against the run of play.
On 30? minutes, Robbie Younis converted an Alex Canak cross from close-range, before Harris Gaitatzis put the result beyond reach 9? minutes from the end.
South Coast Wolves 2 Parramatta FC 2

Peter Simonovski opened the scoring for the Wolves in the 18? minute with a sublime volley from the edge of the penalty-area.
Parramatta FC?s reply arrived only moments before the break and it arrived via speedy striker Kwabena Appiah-Kubi. The young gun side-footed a cross underneath the Wolves goalkeeper, sending the sides in at the break all level.
South Coast restored their lead in the 57? minute when Mark Picciolini headed the Wolves ahead, however the travelling Eagles were not going to give in as Appiah-Kubi sealed a point for his side in the 69? minute. Inside a crowded penalty-area, the striker blasted a loose ball into the back of the net to secure the Eagles a point against one of the competition?s high-flyers in this early part of the season.
Blacktown City FC 2 Sydney Olympic 2
Sydney Olympic left Lily Homes Stadium with a share of the spoils after finishing the encounter against Blacktown City FC with nine-men. The Blues led the encounter 2-0, though were left to settle for a point against a strong finishing Blacktown City FC.
Sydney Olympic lost David Gullo late in the first-half following the midfielder?s two yellow cards. The numerical disadvantage didn?t effect Sydney Olympic as Chris Triantis slotted the ball past Brody Crane early in the second-half to open the scoring.
Phil Makrys doubled the Blues lead minutes later via the penalty-spot following Zac Cairncross? foul on new Blues signing Matthew Mayora.
Blacktown City?s comeback effort commenced in the 62? minute as Emmanuel Giannaros was given a straight red card for a foul inside the penalty-area on Matt Lewis. Travis Major converted the spot-kick, and all the momentum was with the home side.
The equalising goal arrived via Ryuji Miyazawa in the 82? minute. The Japanese import managed to turn inside the penalty-area and convert past Paul Henderson to keep his side?s unbeaten record in 2012 intact.
Sydney United 58 FC 0 Manly United FC 1
Sydney United 58 FC were stunned by Manly United FC on Sunday afternoon as Scott Balderson netted in the 33? minute to decide the encounter at Sydney United Sports Centre.
The Reds missed the chance to move into second spot on the ladder, had they won the match, leaving the side now seven-points behind Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
The win for the Northern Beaches side is Craig Midgley?s first of the season, lifting the side further away from the bottom of the table.
Sydney United had chances late-on in the encounter, though the Manly United defence, led exceptionally well by Marc Richards, administered proceedings perfectly to grind out the win.
