Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC has joined with Kingz FC, an AWD Futsal club who put their disabilities behind them to play indoor Football (soccer).
Long-time co-ordinator, mentor, carer, coach and general all-round advocate for AWD Sports, come Kingz-Rangers convenor Ms Kelly Fishburn met with Football NSW to discuss AWD being recognised and included in an official Football NSW Futsal program.
Mt Druitt Town Rangers [MDTR] began training the Kingz last season, with a number of the talented Rangers players giving their time to further develop the skills of the Kingz players.
For some Kingz, Football is simply exercise and a social occasion, for a number of others, Football is their passion, their opportunity to shine and that they do!
The dream of all is to represent their country and a number of Kingz did exactly that when they were selected for the Australian team in the INAS World Futsal Championships in France late last year.
Playing as the Kingz-Rangers for the first time in a Gala Day at Stanhope Gardens on Saturday 25th May against AWD teams from across NSW and Victoria, in what is best described as a truly fantastic, humbling event.
Featuring teams from Maroubra/Randwick, the Illawarra, Melbourne as well as our very own Mt Druitt Town Rangers a great day was had by all. Many parents and carers from teams in attendance congratulated Kelly, the volunteer helpers [Greg, Danny, Daniel, Helen, etc.] and Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC on a fantastic day.
While the Kingz-Rangers were excited to be able to play in front of MDTR club President Mark Robertson, Secretary Scott Payer and some of the Rangers trainers, the pleasure was most certainly with those watching the joy and enthusiasm that the games were played in.
“Just good to be able to give something back to the community.
“You can see how much this means to them, it’s just brilliant.”
The Rangers trainers agreed – “It’s fantastic to finally see the Kingz play, they’ve been coming to watch us play, so it’s great to be able to support them for a change.”
The Kingz-Rangers will also participate in the Football NSW Football4all Gala Day being hosted at Football NSW Valentine Sports Park on Sunday, 23rd June.
For the record, Kingz-Rangers Gala day results:
•           A-Grade: 2nd & 3rd place [Illawarra 1st],
•           B-Grade: 1st [v Melbourne]
•           C-Grade: 2nd [Maroubra/Randwick 1st]
