Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre hosted 6 days of action packed futsal as the top teams of New South Wales battled for the crown of 2013 NSR Futsal Schools State Champions.
260 teams competed across U10, U12, U14, U16 and Opens divisions for both boys and girls to determine who would earn the right to be called State Champions for 2013.
Football NSW Game Development Officer David Plowright was highly impressed with the depth of quality competing at this year’s Championships.
“Each division had at least 8 teams that were capable of winning the title. You can definitely see the benefits of the schools that are practising regularly, as well as implementing the proper futsal tactics and techniques into their training regime. I hope to see a number of these players involved in the upcoming FNSW Futsal Premier League and State League campaigns.”
An exciting new initiative for this year was the introduction of the Futsal in a Bag concept. With the support of hummel and NSR Soccer Australia, each school competing in the NSR Futsal Schools State Championships was given a pack consisting of a hummel bag, two hummel Futsal balls, 10 cones, 10 bibs, a draw/results card and a whiteboard marker.
“The Futsal in a Bag concept was very warmly received by each of the participants. Futsal in a Bag will ensure each school has the necessary equipment to practice regularly and ensure wider involvement within their school in the game of futsal” said Plowright.
The final day of the NSR Futsal Schools State Championships was host to the AWD Futsal Schools Gala Day, providing athletes with disabilities in both the IM and IO divisions the opportunity to play futsal in a safe and fun environment.
“The AWD Futsal Schools Gala Day was such a good day to be part of as all the participants demonstrated plenty of talent and good sportsmanship. It was very inspiring and a pleasure to watch” said FNSW Community Game Development Officer Amanda Lauric.
Football NSW would like to thank all of the participating schools, teachers, coaches, parents, referees and players for making the 2013 NSR Futsal Schools State Championships a great success.
Football NSW would like to thank NSR Soccer Australia for their continuing support of grassroots futsal.
