More than 1000 junior players from across the state descended on the home of Football NSW last weekend with Valentine Sports Park hosting the Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) Gala Weekend.

Taking place over two days on August 17 and 18, the SAP Gala event saw participants from 28 accredited Football NSW SAP Licensees including teams from Capital Football and Northern NSW Football showcasing SAP Clubs from under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s in a wonderful weekend of football.

Football NSW Head of Football Phil Brown was pleased with what the SAP Gala Day achieved and stressed it will only get bigger and better in 2014.

“The Football NSW SAP is part a nationwide youth development initiative, highlighted by the attendance at the gala weekend of teams from Capital Football and the Northern NSW Football Federation,” Brown said.

“We will continue to analyse delivery of best practice learning environments provided to the state’s talented young players, and challenge ourselves and the SAP licensees to strive for even better results in 2014.

“We would like to thank the clubs, associations and branches for their support during the 2013 SAP, and congratulate all of the participants for a successful season. We look forward to seeing everyone back again in 2014.”

Football NSW Technical Director Alex Tobin conducted a SAP Technical Directors and Coaches forum across both days and shared key learning’s on the importance SAP plays in the player development pathway.

“We had a great response with our forums and engaged with all SAP Technical Directors and Coaches where we shared knowledge on further developing our younger players to meet their full potential,” Tobin said

As well as all the action on the pitch there was still plenty to do off it with appearances from Western Sydney Wanderers Aaron Mooy and Jason Trifiro while jumping castles proved popular with the kids.

SAP is the official Football NSW development program for players aged from U9s to U11s, with the Gala Day providing teams with the opportunity to play against others from outside their regular zones.
