State’s best return to Coffs Harbour for National Champs
NSW’s best and brightest junior footballers were once again on show in Coffs Harbour with the FFA National Youth Championship for Boys kicking off on Monday.
The event sees the best Under-13 and U-14 state and regional teams face off in a weeklong competition on the Coffs Coast.
Day one was a big one for NSW with an early interstate derby between NSW Metro and NSW Country in the U-14 age group.
In a hard fought match it was only a strike from Country’s Connor Caponecchia, which was the difference as NSW Country took home a 1-0 win.
NSW Metro had a better start to the competition in the U-13’s age group with a 1-0 win against Northern NSW Metro.
Ramy Najjarine’s 29th minute strike proving enough to claim all three points.
Despite pushing for a late come back, NSW Country U-13’s were unable to defeat Queensland Country.
The Maroons two first half goals left NSW on the back foot and although Robert Rimmer’s 44th minute goal had them in with a change of stealing a draw it wasn’t to be.
Day 2 of competition see NSW Metro with a double header taking on Canberra and Victoria Metro while NSW Country plays Queensland Metro in the U-14 age group.
While in the U-13’s NSW Metro also play back-to-back game against Victoria Metro and Football West.
NSW Country U-13’s will play the Northern Territory.
