Women’s State League Round 4 Preview

After last round’s matches only three points separate first place from fifth.
This weekend will see a couple of very interesting games that will dictate the table.
APIA Leichhardt Tigers vs. Southern Districts Emeralds – 3PM, Lambert Park
After last week’s stalemate against Gladesville, it is understandable that the girls from the west would be raring to go to score some goals. They would be out to prove that they are one of the contenders for the title and would want to prove that against APIA.
Meanwhile the Tigers have suffered a forgetful start to the season. Though it has been tough they ended last week’s game against the highly rated St George outfit on a high scoring two second-half goals. The girls from Leichhardt just need to build on the intensity they showed at the end of that game as they look for an upset at home.
Parramatta Lady Hawks vs. Bankstown City FC – 3PM, Melita Stadium
The Lady Hawks are at home this week and are desperate for a win. They have endured a dismal start to the season and clearly have issues on both sides of the football. They currently have not scored yet this season and have conceded 21 goals. Though luckily it is still early in the year and can still make up for what they have lost.
The girls from Bankstown were frustrated from last week’s draw. They would surely be keen to claim their first win of the season as they look at beating the league’s bottom team.
Gladesville Ravens vs. Nepean FC – 3PM, Peel Park
Clearly the match of the round as the team at the summit plays team number three. There is much on the line in this match-up as the winner could claim top spot depending on the result in the St George game.
Gladesville has been this season’s surprise packet and has enjoyed an undefeated start to the season. They have only conceded one goal and their team chemistry has been the key to their recent success.
In the meantime Nepean has won both their games and have been absolutely impressive. They have scored nine goals in two games and have not conceded. This should be an absolute blockbuster.
St George FC vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers – 3PM St George Soccer Stadium
The Saints are coming off a game where they scored ten goals. Though it is arguable if they have been truly challenged yet this season and their loss against Gladesville would still be in the back of their heads as they face fifth place Mt Druitt.
Meanwhile the Town Rangers earned a hard fought point last week against Bankstown and are looking to claim all three points this time. They have a strong midfield and will look to use their muscle against a St George side that is full of finesse.
