After last week’s interesting results Round 14 of the Womens State League will see a tantalizing match-up between St George FC and Bankstown City Lions.

APIA Leichhardt Tigers vs. Parramatta Lady Hawks, Lambert Park 1pm

This match showcases the bottom two teams of the league going head to head. With the Lady Hawks suffering their eleventh loss of the season last week, they will be desperate to claim three points against a team they consider their equals.

Also sitting on three points, the Tigers will be out to gain revenge on the Lady Hawks after losing to them in their previous and only meeting this season. APIA has had the better season scoring more goals and conceding less. After showing more promise on the pitch in the last month, APIA’s goal will be all three points here and nothing less.

Southern Districts Emeralds vs. Nepean FC, Ernie Smith Reserve 3PM

After suffering a disappointing loss to second placed Mt Druitt last week the Emeralds will be out to make a statement this week against the league’s third best team. They will be ever reliant on their core and would need some inventive attacking flair to break Nepean’s strong defence.

Meanwhile Nepean FC enjoyed a tremendous result last week, which will consolidate their top two credentials for this year’s campaign. The victory over St George last week demonstrates the importance of defence in football. They boast the league’s best defence having only conceding nine goals in twelve matches.

Gladesville Ravens vs. Mt Druitt Town Rangers, Peel Park, 3pm

With both sides enjoying great wins last week, the three points on offer this week is vital in consolidating their positions. The Town Rangers have been consistent all year and a win here will maintain their pressure on league leaders Bankstown City FC.

With the Saints going through a form slump, a Gladesville win and a Saints loss against Bankstown could bring them to within one point of a top four spot. They need to remain focus and hungry to break down this well organized Mt Druitt unit.

St George FC vs. Bankstown City FC, St George Soccer Stadium 3pm

Two of the best attacking sides of the league go head to head in what is certainly the match of the round. The Saints are in terrible form going into this game losing three straight. While they have dropped in form, their record at home have been tremendous as they look to snap their losing streak. They will need their key players, Melissa Toumbelekis and Georgia Koinis who have combined for 36 goals to shine in this game.

The key for Bankstown is their start striker Samantha Muscat. Currently leading the league, Muscat has netted a staggering 36 goals and has also contributed with a number of crucial assists. They need to be very wary of St George’s counter attacking prowess as they look for their second straight win against them this season.
