Rushton enjoying Grassroots football

Away from the busy life of being one of the popular faces of Australian football on Fox Sports, Television personality and presenter Tara Rushton continues her love affair with the round ball game as a footballer.

An avid Arsenal fan, Rushton had a fantastic season playing grassroots football in the Northern Suburbs Football Association for Lindfield FC or otherwise known as the “Lemurs” in Division 3.

The Australian TV presenter and lethal striker was one happy camper as the “Lemurs” took out the 2014 NSFA Division 3 Championship with a 3-1 victory over Premiers Lane Cove.

“It was a great weekend, seeing the girls take out the Championship defeating the Premiers was amazing.

“We remained in the top half of the ladder for the majority of the season and took our chances after defeating Hornsby RSL in the semis 1-0 thanks to a goal from our Golden Boot winner Kris Fraser and then taking out the Championship by defeating Lane Cove where Kris scored a hat trick.”

Rushton stated to Football NSW that she was eagerly anticipating the new season but was happy she did not have to wait till next March as she enrolled herself into her local 5-a-side summer football competition.

“I am definitely looking forward to plying my trade when our 5-a-side competition kicks off next week but I must say I had so much fun this year playing grassroots football with the best bunch of girls that included University students, HR Professionals, Entrepreneurs and mums.

“It was a stellar season and I will be back with the team again without a doubt.

“Come on you Blues.”

Rushton will also be part of next weekend’s IGA NPL NSW Mens 1 festivities as the official MC for the Grand Final on Sunday September 14 at Sydney United Sports Centre along with good friend and experienced Fox Sports commentator Simon Hill who will be calling the game “Live” for Football NSW on the official live stream.
