Australian Chinese Soccer Association celebrating 20 years
With the AFC Asian Cup in full swing and the Chinese National team playing the card of the surprise packet, it is timely that the Australian Chinese Soccer Association (ACSA) will celebrate its 20-year anniversary in early March.
The undefeated Chinese will take on the Socceroos in Brisbane on Thursday in what is promising to be a mouth-watering quarterfinal matchup. With a large amount of Chinese migrants, the community is highly anticipating the game, which will leave many supporters with torn hearts.
To commemorate 20 years of successful football, the ACSA is organising a dinner for its members and partners on the 2nd of March, at the Crystal Seafood Chinese Restaurant in Strathfield.
The ACSA has left a footprint on football in New South Wales by creating a pathway for the community to promote the game on a social level for the sport’s spirit, joy, competitiveness and leisure.
The Association was founded back in 1995 by a group of football enthusiastic Chinese immigrants who wanted to bring the game to the community.
Today, the ACSA counts 20 teams along with 400 registered players.
Chairman, Stephen Lee, spoke about affiliations and roles that the ACSA plays within football.
“The ACSA is an affiliated member of the state football governing body and run its competition in accordance by rulings of Football NSW.”
The not-for-profit organisation strives to create an affordable football experience for its members.
“Through generous community supports and sponsorships, as well as committee members and helpers who offer their time and efforts without remuneration, we are able to balance our sheets,” Lee said.
On a community level, the ACSA has grown significantly in recent years.
“We have co-organised various community football events with the NSW Police, Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers FC and various local councils with success and applause.”
Mr Lee finished off by proudly speaking about the international relations the ACSA has made.
“We have hosted and guided visiting football teams from China including the National Women’s Football team and Chinese Champions, Guangzhou Evergrande.”
