PS4 Preseason Cup – Round 2 Review
THE PS4 NPL NSW Men’s 1 Preseason Cup is starting to take shape after the second round, which saw APIA-Leichhardt Tigers head to the top of Pool 1 after they beat South Coast Wolves.
Their neighbours Sydney Olympic went to the top of Pool 2 after a thumping win against Sutherland.
Pool 1
Sydney United 58 FC 1-1 Bonnyrigg White Eagles, at Sydney United Sports Centre
Sydney United 58 fans were excited to have their two new signings Panni Nikas and Nick Stavroulakis lining up together in the centre of the park.
They both got on the scoresheet, unfortunately one scored at either end.
United led 1-0 at the break thanks to a penalty converted by Nikas, but a freakish own goal from Stavroulakis saw the scores end level.
APIA-Leichhardt Tigers 2-0 South Coast Wolves, at Lambert Park
Could the good times be on the way for APIA?
Their new-look squad eased to a 2-0 win against South Coast Wolves, but those in attendance know it could have been plenty more.
Blake Powell arrived midway through last season and such was his impact, he won the player of the season award in a struggling side.
The former Sutherland forward scored twice here to work himself into some decent form as the season proper approaches.
Blacktown City 4-2 Rockdale City Suns, at Lilys Football Centre
The real Blacktown City announced their arrival with a four star display in Seven Hills.
They ran out 4-2 winners over their visitors, the Rockdale City Suns. Danny Choi netted a hattrick for Blacktown City, and midfielder Sasa Macura also found the back of the net.
Marko Jesic and Hristijian Tanoski were the goal scorers for Rockdale City.
Pool 2
Blacktown Spartans 1-4 Manly United, at Blacktown Football Park
Spartans were shocked by a resurgent Manly United, who came away from Rooty Hill with a 4-1 win in their back pockets.
Spartans found a goal through Shane Long, but Manly were lethal in front of goal.
Daniel Saric scored a hattrick for Paul Dee’s side, with Ivan Roca also finding the back of the net.
Sydney Olympic 4-2 Sutherland Sharks, at Peter Moore Field
Grant Lee moulded a free flowing, attacking outfit at Sydney Olympic last season and he looks to have done the same, if this result is anything to go by.
Go Shirai, Scott Balderson and Troy Danaskos scored for Olympic, and a rare goal from fullback Brayden Sorge made it four.
While for the Sharks Peter Crevani notched up for the away side as well as one of their Korean trialists.
Parramatta FC 2-1 Marconi Stallions, at Melita Stadium
Parramatta FC took out its first points for 2015 in the top flight with a 2-1 victory over the Marconi Stallions.
The home side were up by two at the break thanks to goals from Daniel Rezo from the spot and John Tsironis before the Stallions grabbed a consolation in the 75th minute.
