Riverina Regional Community Development Road Show

Football NSW recently conducted the Riverina Regional Community Development Road Show which took centre stage at 4 schools that included two grassroots coaching courses, a coaching development clinic, Indigenous partnership with Wagga United FC and Disability football engagement with Wagga Wagga Football4all. 

The Riverina Road Show was intended to promote and further develop the world game in the Riverina Region.

The Riverina Road Show also provided the ideal platform to launch Football NSW’s Indigenous partnership Assistance program in the Riverina region.

Monday 20th April Griffith

·         Griffith Club Skill Clinic

·         Griffith Grassroots Coaching Course  

First stop on the Riverina Road Show was the Historic town of Griffith.

Local junior players were treated to a free skills coaching clinic held by Blaise Fagan the Riverina Coaching and Development Manager. 

Due to popular demand, there will be a grassroots coaching course to be held in the Griffith area in the near future.

Tuesday 21st April Wagga Wagga

·         Henschke Primary School

·         Indigenous Partnership Assistance Program Launch

·         Disability Visit

·         Grassroots Coaching course

The second day of the Riverina road show was centred on the Riverina regional hub Wagga Wagga. The students of the Henschke primary school were put through their paces with skills sessions and small sided games.

Football NSW identified Wagga United Football Club as the recipients of an Indigenous Partnership Assistance Program. The Indigenous Assistance Program is designed to assist clubs and indigenous players to participate in Football Activities, through the provision of equipment, coach education and subsidised registrations. 

Peter Ellicott, President of Wagga United, was elated with the opportunity afforded to Wagga United by Football NSW to further develop indigenous Football participation in Wagga Wagga.

“Thank you for this opportunity, this is a wonderful opportunity for Wagga United to assist the local indigenous community to get involved with this fantastic sport.”

Disability Football was not missed with a visit to the Wagga Football4all program.

The Wagga Football4all program is now in its second year and is set to build upon its successful inaugural season. The Program is designed to allow individuals with special needs the opportunity to participate in the world game, in a safe, supportive and fun environment.

The day concluded with a Grassroots Coaching Course. The course was well received by all in attendance, providing new ideas for developing the next generation of footballers. 

Wednesday 22nd April Junee

·         Junee Primary School

·         Grass Roots Coaching Course

The historic railway village of Junee was the location for day three of the Riverina Road Show. Students were treated to skills sessions, where they worked to develop their footballing skills as well as learning a few new tricks along the way. Junee also played host to a Grassroots Coaching Course aimed at providing junior team coaches the rules of the game, stimulating coaches and parents to think about their behaviours, enjoying the game and developing a growth and mindset to coaching and teaching.

Thursday 23rd April Albury

·         Lavington Public School

The Riverina Road Show travelled to Albury for the fourth day of the tour.

The students of Lavington Public School were all smiles as they worked hard to develop their skills and compete in some friendly small sided games.

“The smiles on the faces of the kids out there having a go was the best measure of success”, Robert Fitzgerald, Football NSW Communities Development Officer commented.

Friday 24th April

·         Lady Smith Public School

The small village of Lady Smith was not overlooked as Football descended onto the Lady Smith Primary School on day five of the Riverina Road Show.

Students were treated to a fun and engaging football clinic.

The schools PSSA football team were pleased with the announcement that Blaise Fagan would be returning to assist the team in training and developing their skills further.

“The small school football competition will be a great place for the students of Lady Smith public School to showcase their abilities”, Blaise Fagan, Football NSW Riverina Coaching and Development Manager ended.
