Colombia and Fiji enjoy VSP experience
It was an amazing spectacle as U-20 World Cup 2015 participants Colombia took on Fiji at Valentine Sports Park in a friendly hit-out on Monday afternoon.
The match was played at a ferocious pace in what was a healthy crowd of just under 200 fans as the Colombians ran out 2-1 winners against a gutsy Fijian outfit.
Los Cafeteros brought a rather formidable squad ‘down under’ as coach Carlos Restrepo had a number of quality stars at his disposal with Udinese’s Alexis Zapata, Vitoria’s Joao Rodriguez, America de Cali’s Jeison Lucumi were just some of the football stars on offer at Football NSW headquarters.
The Fijians took the lead early in the first half courtesy of a penalty scored by Iosefo Verovou after leading Hyundai A-League referee Kris Griffiths Jones pointed to the spot. The Colombians responded well just before the break as Joao Rodriguez bagged the equaliser before Jarlan Barrera with his first touch, scored the winner much to the excitement of the strong Colombian faithful on hand to cheer the South American giants on.
The FIFA U-20 World Cup will commence on the 30th of May and will conclude on the 20th of June as the tournament is set to boast a number of high profile world football stars ready to use this major event as a springboard to stardom in their club footballing careers.
It’s been a busy May at Valentine Sports Park as apart from the Fijians and Colombians, Mexico and Ghana have both utilised the venue at Glenwood as has the Vietnamese Women’s National Team and the Matildas.
