Defibrillators given go ahead in St George

St George Football Association will soon be investing in the purchase of defibrillators for their football clubs. Ready for next season, the initial rollout will feature 16 defibrillators for clubs.
A total of over $37,000 is to be invested in the life saving technology by the Association and local club Forest Rangers FC, with further investment planned in the near future.
Training in operating the defibrillators will be undertaken by all club personnel, first aiders, coaches & managers.
For St George Football Association, the decision to invest in defibrillators didn’t come lightly. Incidents involving players over the past couple of years, one of which led to the passing of Matt “Richo” Richardson – a well-loved member at Forest Rangers FC – have resulted in huge support by all clubs in the St George region to invest in Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
Forest Rangers FC have been instrumental in the defibrillators proposal, driving awareness through their hosting of the ‘Richo Cup’ in memory of Matt Richardson.  
Direct support and advice has been provided by Football NSW to St George Football Association and Forest Rangers FC as well as all Clubs and Associations in regards to AEDs.
Football NSW has worked to increase awareness and encourage players to visit their GP to get a health check before participating in sport or physical activities. 
Over the past six months Football NSW has undertaken significant research and consultation in relation to AEDs, their benefits and suitability for sport. Earlier this month a defibrillator was installed at Valentine Sports Park, the Home of Football in NSW, with staff trained in its use.
