Futsal Premier League Round 5 Preview

It will be a short round of Futsal Premier League matches as the East Coast Heat take part in the AFF Futsal Club Championships in Bangkok.

The East Coast Heat were crowned 2015 F-League Champions and will represent Australia at this prestigious tournament held in Bangkok which will feature club champions from Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam.

As such, there will be two out of the four matches set to be played this weekend seeing UTS Northside face the South Coast Taipans and the Mascot Vipers taking on the Dural Warriors.

UTS Northside v South Coast Taipans

UTS Northside and South Coast Taipans get together for the first ever premier league meeting between the clubs. Anchored to the bottom of the table with one point from four weekends it’s time for one of these teams to break their shackles.

UTS are definitely competitive, successive 3-4 losses to top-four sides Inner West and Campbelltown rounded out by a terrific 3-3 draw with Enfield, and they’ll just as active this weekend against a South Coast side that’s leaked 21 goals and last won a premier league match in late-2011 (nine straight runs without success).

Mascot Vipers v Dural Warriors

A revived Mascot Vipers can make a bold statement in a visit from perennial champions Dural. The Warriors have won 10 straight premier league affairs with Mascot, the closest contest a 5-4 victory way back in late-2009, and they’d be expected to take this weekend’s fixture.

But Mascot are on a rapid rate of improvement and a stoic 5-3 win over Enfield followed by a solid showing against Inner West (4-2 loss) then two late goals saw them draw 5-5 with Campbelltown, and Vipers are a force to be reckoned with. Dural’s on a four-game winning streak on the road, one more win equals the league-high mark set by the Warriors (from 2012-2013) and Sydney City Eagles (2011-2012). Dural will set a league record for unbeaten games should they win or draw.
