Chun buzzing to be back at Bonnyrigg

There have been a few fan favourites over the years at Bonnyrigg Sports Ground and one of those in recent seasons has been that of tricky midfielder Ken Chun.

After spending a season overseas in the Thai First Division, Chun has come back to the White Eagles in 2016.

“Bonnyrigg has been a loyal club to me and Brian Brown and Cliff Pointer have been looking after me since I was young with my youth career.

“Everywhere they go they scout me and take me with them.

“It’s another home for me, I spent three seasons here.

“This is my fourth so I’m looking forward to it.”

Chun went abroad, spending a season in Thailand with TTM FC, an experience he’ll will use in furthering his career as a professional footballer.

“It wasn’t the best league seeing as it is South East Asia, but I wanted to stay in a professional set-up and I went for a trial, got a contract and spent eight months over there.

“It wasn’t bad, but our team finished bottom of the table.”

Last year the White Eagles took out the Grand Final, Chun didn’t play but was right in the thick of the celebrations.

“I wish I was part of the win but I was there to celebrate with the boys at least.”

Chun will look to emulate the season that was, acknowledging it will be tough, in particular missing two key players from the Bonnyrigg line-up.

“We’ll be missing two major mentors in long-time captain Chris Tadrosse and Tynan Diaz who were major players for the club over the last 5-6 years and it’s a big loss for us.

“With the squad we have and new players we have recruited, I think we should be fine.”

With these two gone, Chun admits other players have stepped up and none other than a certain goal-scoring machine who he had some extra words for.

“There are a few boys stepping up like Aaron Peterson, becoming more mature, David Vrankovic as well despite his age.

“Of course the veteran Robbie Younis as well.

“I don’t know when he’s going to retire though, he says he wants to but I think he can go for another five years.”

Chun is hungry for success and trophies with Bonnyrigg, hoping to further add more silverware to the cabinet.

“Obviously winning the Grand Final, doing the double would be great, both Premiership and Play-Offs.”

Something Chun and the White Eagles will really attack this year will be the Westfield FFA Cup.

“Hopefully we have a real go at the FFA Cup and get the opportunity to take on A-League sides, it’s a special personal objective for me.”

The White Eagles start their PlayStation 4 National Premier League’s Men’s season this weekend away to the Rockdale City Suns.
