Sydney University SFC is determined to turn their new $13 million home ground into a fortress when Round 2 of the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s competition kicks off on Saturday.

Officially renamed as Sydney University Football Ground at an unveiling event on Wednesday, the former No.2 Oval will get its first match when the university hosts Stanmore Hawks.

The state-of-the-art TAG Family Foundation Grandstand boasts tiered seating for 1100 people as well as two stories of sport facilities underneath including  a high-performance strength and conditioning gym, offices, meeting room, a grounds storage area, fully renovated change rooms and a purpose-built medical room.

An upgraded playing surface was also included in the project works.

The ground has provided Sydney Uni Soccer Football Club its first purpose built home with the team previously sharing the university’s Oval No.1 with rugby, cricket and Aussie rules.

The unveiling of the ground was a proud moment for University of Sydney Chancellor Belinda Hutchinson as more than 300 people at the TAG Family Foundation Grandstand function room watched on for the official cutting of the ribbon.

“The facility’s fruition is an absolute triumph for the entire University community and I look forward to many high-quality games on these grounds,” she said.

Sydney University Sport and Fitness Executive Director Rob Smithies said the arena was a major addition to the University’s sport and recreation facilities.

“We’re confident the addition of the Grandstand will transform the future of sport on this campus,” he said.

“We are very grateful to everyone at the University who has helped us to build the next generation of sports facilities.”

Kick-off in Saturday’s PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s Round 2 clash between Sydney University SFC and Stanmore Hawks is at 3pm.
