Far South Coast treated to special Roadshow
The trek to NSW’s Far South Coast was marked as a tremendous success as the coaching crew from Football NSW completed what was a great day of football at the Berrambool Sporting Complex in Merimbula.
The trio of Oscar Gonzalez, Renee Rollason and Servet Uzunlar put on training sessions for the Year 3 to 6 students at Merimbula Public School as they each completed individual physical sporting challenges as well as games using core skills from the National Curriculum.
Both former Westfield Matildas took all the female students and shared stories from their own sporting success’ and experiences’ and relayed strong messages about resilience which tied into the schools own core values of respect and responsibility.
Rollason in particular, a local product herself, shared her personal story and the challenges that were presented to her and how she overcame them during her period developing as a footballer from a regional town.
The students were captivated by Rollason’s speech and were extremely interested where they asked question after question to the current Macarthur Rams star as they valued Renee as a proper role model.
Merimbula Public School teacher Kathryn Kennedy was impressed with what both Renee and Servet had to say to her pupils with words of wisdom they would long remember in their later years.
“Renee and Servet’s discussion with the students was key in helping them all understand the challenges that everyone will face from time to time and knowing that their idols have had to overcome some of these obstacles really put things into perspective for them.”
As it’s been for the entire trip, an AIA Vitality MiniRoos session also took place as many as 120 local players flooded the Berrambool Sporting Complex.
Gonzalez then put together his trademark Grassroots Coaching course for the 16 local coaches hailing from the Far South Coast Association.
All coaches had aspects covered such as the National Curriculum with respect to the discovery phase of learning discussed amongst many other skills and drills.
The Technical Director for the Far South Coast, Ray Hale, was delighted with the overall planning of the day and evening and the great exposure the game benefited from this special roadshow visit.
“The sessions for players was well represented incorporating fun and ball mastery.
“The coaching session for parents and coaches provided some optimal strategies for coaching young players which was brilliant.
“It was fantastic to see our Elite female players giving something back to grassroots football.
“Parents, players and spectators had a terrific evening.
“A big thanks to Oscar, Renee and Servet on a job well done as overall this was a resounding thumbs up for Football NSW and the Football Community on the Far South Coast.”
