2016 NSWCIS Football Championships

Valentine Sports Park has played host to the annual New South Wales Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Football Championships, with some outstanding football talent on display.

The two-day tournament was held over the 23rd & 24th of May with both Boys and Girls categories contested. Teams representing AICES (Association of Independent Co-Educational Schools) CSSA (Christian Schools Sports Association), CAS (Combined Associated Schools), ISA (Independent Sporting Association), NCIS (North Coast Independent Schools), GPS (Greater Public Schools), IGSSA (Independent Girls Schools Sports Association) and RAS (Riverina Associated Schools) all took part in what was a fantastic Championship event.

Valentine Sport Park’s world-class synthetic fields were put to good use, with some excellent matches and promising future talent on show. The games were well attended by friends and family, who were treated to an exciting competition.

In the Boys category, GPS finished atop the ladder with 13 points from 6 games while in the Girls category, IGSSA won all 4 of their games.

The tournaments held extra significance in that they were also a selection trial for the boys and girls CIS squads. Players selected will return to Valentine Sports Park on June 20 & 21 to contest the 2016 NSW All Schools Girls & Boys Championships.

This prestigious tournament will see the best football players from the New South Wales Combined High Schools (CHS) and New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges (CIS) challenge the CIS squads for the Championships.

Football NSW is committed to supporting the continued development of football across the state’s schools, and is proud to be hosting some of the countries future talented stars in this fantastic series of tournaments.
