VALE – Mr George Churchward

Football NSW and the football family is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of long serving FNSW Life Member and NSWASF Director and recipient of the inaugural Chairman’s Medal, Mr. George Churchward.

Recognized for his outstanding contribution of over 35 years of service to football at Association and State level, George Churchward was awarded the Chairman’s Medal at the NSWASF President’s Dinner in 1993.

Throughout his long tenure as Financial Director of the then NSW Amateur Soccer Federation, George guided the state body to a healthy surplus to hand over to his successor in 1999 and played an integral part in the development of both Association football and the Amateur soccer body in the early days, and was closely involved in management of state teams.  George was on the foundation committee of NDSFA and President for many years and was awarded a Life Membership of the Nepean Football Association.

In 1994 the Chairman’s Medal was re-named the George Churchward Medal in recognition of his exemplary service to football.   The George Churchward Medal is now recognized as the highest award for recognition of services to Association and State football in NSW and is presented annually at the Football NSW State Dinner.

George Churchward Medal recipients are recognized as having contributed significantly to football over and above what would normally be expected of a person in the position/s they hold or have held and is a contribution which merits the highest possible acknowledgement to the development of the code.

George is survived by his son John and wife Kim and their children Rachel, Melissa and Michael and his daughter Ann Mathews and her family.

Funeral Details

A Requiem Mass for the Eternal Repose of the Soul of George Churchward will be Celebrated at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Church, Troy Street, Emu Plains on Tuesday 14th June 2016 at 11.00 am.
