Round 12 Preview – State League Women’s
After rain curtailed the majority of round eleven, the teams are back on deck and ready to get back into action.
SD Raiders vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers, Sunday 26th June, Ernie Smith Reserve, 3pm
SD Raiders cling to their advantage at the top of State League Women’s and aim to get more breathing room this weekend.
The fixtures come thick and fast for sides and Mt Druitt look to play spoiler for the teams higher in the competition.
Catherine Cannuli’s side cemented their status as comeback queens this season as they played out an entertaining 4-4 draw against UNSW last Wednesday.
It will be a tough ask for the Town Ranger defense to limit the opportunities of Dominique Caridad and Cannuli. The latter coming off a hat-trick in Sunday’s first fixture.
Gladesville Ravens vs Parramatta FC, Sunday 26th June, Peel Park, 3pm
Sixth takes on seventh in one of this weekend’s more intriguing fixtures taking place at Peel Park.
Parramatta FC are on the incline and aim to get off the duck egg against fellow middling team Gladesville Ravens.
Ravens coach John Cook will aim for six points in their two games this weekend to vault them back into finals contention.
It will be a tense and closely contested game with both sides coming off enforced breaks due to weather and happy to be back on the pitch.
St George FC vs Western NSW Mariners FC, Sunday 26th June, St George Stadium, 3pm
Western NSW Mariners were one of only two sides to play last weekend and head to St George Stadium full of confidence.
The Mariners took down APIA Leichhardt two-nil with Katie Pakai-Kelly comes into this weekend in good scoring form.
Pakai-Kelly and Samantha Wood will present a tough challenge for a St George FC a bit shaky at the back.
St George FC found their rhythm against Parramatta FC and poised to continue their run against the third placed Mariners Sunday afternoon.
APIA Leichhardt Tigers vs UNSW Lions, Sunday 26th June, Lambert Park, 7pm
Last time these two sides met it was an engrossing battle and the fixture Sunday night promises to deliver similar.
APIA were down on players and luck in Mudgee but Coach Matteo Maiorana praised the side’s effort and know they can rebound this weekend.
It will be a battle of the strikers with the home side boasting Christina Ferreyra and Dana Buttigieg to combat State League Women’s highest scorers.
The Lions have the top two scorers in State League Women’s in Georgia Goulding and Rachelle Godman which presents a feast of open and attacking football under the Lambert lights.
