Round 12 Review – State League Women’s
It rained goals rather than water this weekend as the whole fixture list went ahead in another exciting weekend of State League Women’s action.
Match of the Round: SD Raiders 5 defeated Mt Druitt Town Rangers 0
Five star SD Raiders produced a dominant performance as they put the Mt Druitt Town Rangers to the sword on a cold afternoon at Ernie Smith Reserve.
It was a fairly even start to the contest as Mt Druitt Town Rangers took the fight to the competition leaders with Raiders ‘keeper Rhianna Muscat needing to intervene on several chances.
The Raiders quickly worked their way into the contest and in the 10th minute the lead. Sarah Bittner played a sublime ball through for Caterina Moio to run onto and slot home for the early 1-nil lead.
Town Rangers responded well to conceding though, as Lisa Fressard was released close to the area and fired into the chest of Muscat.
She followed that up with a neat interchange that whistled past the post as Town Rangers started to put pressure on the home side.
Dominique Caridad was central to the play for the Raiders as they sought to get their foothold back into the contest. She won plenty of midfield challenges and tested Toni-Rae Talbot in the Rangers goal several times.
Eventually the Raiders got back on top and pounced on errors from the visitors. Courtney Krope found herself one-on-one with Talbot who saved at first chance but Krope was quick enough to fire home a second goal for the home side.
Six minutes after the resumption SD Raiders made it three as Moio got her second. She recognised Talbot off her line and chipped a speculative effort that cushioned into the left side corner for a 3-nil lead.
With the home side in top gear, the chances for Mt Druitt were few and far between. Nubia Lopez almost responded immediately from Moio’s second but she placed it right at Muscat.
Moio completed her hat-trick just after the hour mark with an arrowed effort for an unassailable 4-0 lead. She was subbed off five minutes later to generous applause for her efforts.
Nicole Monti rounded off the scoring in the 70th minute when the ball bounced around the area from a corner and Monti was quickest to respond to complete a thorough display to keep the Raiders in first.
Afterwards a Raiders coach praised the efforts of the team as they were clinical with their chances and importantly kept a clean sheet for a good afternoon.
Mt Druitt coach Danny Abboud lamented the second half collapse.
"I think if we scored in the first ten minutes it would have changed the game. We fell away after making some changes but we’re chipping away.
They are a good side and countered to open the scoring, going on with it." Added Abboud.

Gladesville Ravens 9 defeated Parramatta FC 0
A masterstroke from coach John Cook led Gladesville to a thumping nine goal win against Parramatta at Peel Park this afternoon.
The introduction of 16 year old Isabelle Hatton played a starring role in the rout with a hat-trick of goals and assists in a rampaging second half.
Ellie Jones scored four while Brianna Wade and Isabella Breukelaar chipped in with one each.
It was 2-nil going into the break before Gladesville Ravens piled on seven goals in the second half to move three points off fifth.
St George FC 0 defeated by Western NSW Mariners 2
Western NSW Mariners continued their good run of form with a solid two-goal victory in the south of Sydney.
Katie Pakai-Kelly also continued her run getting herself on the scoresheet once again as Jess Salomoni netted the other which helped the Mariners to a two goal halftime lead.
St George FC worked their way into the contest in the second half but a stubborn Mariners defense held firm for the clean sheet.
Mariners coach Michael Godbier praised a "dominant performance that should’ve possibly been much larger but we’re pretty happy after today."
APIA Leichhardt Tigers 3 defeated UNSW Lions 1
APIA recorded a stirring comeback to take down UNSW Lions under the bright lights of Lambert Park Sunday night.
UNSW started the game off well scoring in the first five minutes which shocked the Tigers into action.
The Tigers fought back with goals to Dana Buttigieg, new signing Claire Munro and Christina Ferreyra to capture all three points.
Afterwards APIA coach Matteo Maiorana praised his side "We were very good and learnt from our last game against Uni so we reaped benefits tonight."
