Round 14 Preview – State League Women’s
Round 14 might be crucial to the makeup of the top four, as first takes on second while UNSW face a tough trip to St George FC in a packed weekend of action.
SD Raiders vs APIA Leichhardt Tigers, Sunday 10th July 2016, Ernie Smith Reserve, 3pm
APIA head to the south west of Sydney to take on the standard bearers for State League Women’s in a blockbuster clash to kick off the round.
Both teams come off drawn matches which condensed the top four and left all the teams within a win of each other.
The visitors have added further firepower to their team in Matilda Teresa Polias to anchor their midfield and supply their talented forward line.
SD Raiders possess their own dynamic duo in Dominique Caridad and Caterina Moio to make for a compelling contest at Ernie Smith Reserve.
Parramatta FC vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers, Sunday 10th July 2016, Melita Stadium, 3pm
Mt Druitt has proven a thorn in the side of several opponents in recent times and hope to pick up three points at Melita Stadium on Sunday.
Town Rangers coach Danny Abboud kept confidence in his team each week and has started to see results with much closer contests recently.
Lisa Fressard has led from the front for Mt Druitt with her six goals this season and look to add to her tally Sunday afternoon.
Parramatta FC have been a barren run and look to Sunday for their first points of the season in an intriguing contest.
Gladesville Ravens vs Western NSW Mariners, Sunday 10th July 2016, Peel Park, 3pm
Gladesville Ravens have been on a roll in the last month and look to continue their form against a stout Mariners side.
John Cook’s side came through a tough contest with Mt Druitt with a 3-1 win due to the excellent form of Isabella Breukelaar.
She linked well with Isabelle Hatton who has six goals in her last three games as the Ravens move within sight of the top four.
The Mariners just keep on collecting points and scoring goals while possessing the best defense in State League Women’s with ten goals conceded.
These factors combine to make for a tight contest Sunday afternoon at Peel Park.
St George FC vs University of NSW Lions, Sunday 10th July 2016, St George Stadium, 3pm
St George fresh off a valuable point against APIA face another stern task in the third placed UNSW Lions.
A Lions side fresh from putting eight past Parramatta despite the absence of top scorer Georgia Goulding.
Emily Fardell stepped in the spotlight with a hat-trick and the Lions will keep Stephanie Lara in goal busy that afternoon.
As shown at Lambert Park St George FC can counter well with Marissa Nicopoulos and Lily Chen up top which will keep the Lions defense honest.
