National Indigenous Tournament shines on Day One

The inaugural National Indigenous Tournament kicked off on Thursday 3rd November on the traditional land of the Tharawal people, at the South Nowra Sporting Complex.
In a great turnout, 142 local school students started off the 4-day weekend in the scorching heat, taking part in a Football NSW hosted MiniRoos skills sessions.
Students from Years 3 to 6 participated with some new skills and took part in a mini World Cup under the guidance of Football NSW MiniRoos Development Officer Ed Ferguson and a host of coaches.
Ferguson was delighted with the turnout and thanked the coaches that gave up their time in ensuring each student had a great experience and highlighted the spectacular talent on show in Southern NSW.
“It was great to have the local football association assist us during the MiniRoos clinic with Mark Johnstone, Sam Cockrem and Rosey Cockrem lending a hand and putting on a memorable day for the students.
“We also had assistance from the Australian Navy – these guys were brilliant at getting involved with the kids and making sure that all players were involved and enjoying themselves throughout the day.
"Good Sports Australia were also involved, providing much needed zinc, cold water and footballs for each student.
“The coming together of so many different organisations so early on in the weekend conveys the strong message that the National Indigenous Tournament aims to achieve; inclusiveness.
“Without the support from multiple bodies this day and experience would not have been possible.
“A final thank you to Bernie and Lawrence, who have coordinated the entire event and will be looking forward to the charity match and tournament final on Sunday afternoon."
