Pre-season kicks off for young referees
Over 60 aspiring young referees descended on Valentine Sports Park on Wednesday evening as they commenced preparations for the 2017 Football NSW Youth Competition season.
With players and coaches currently undergoing trials and fitness training sessions, these young ambitious referees have also hit the ground running with physical activity as well as technical training gaining an understanding of the 96 changes to the ‘The Laws of the Game’ that have been implemented by FIFA in 2016.
Football NSW Referees Manager Kris Griffiths Jones was eagerly anticipating the new intake of future A-League and W-League referees.
“It’s a challenging time for match officials to learn the new laws and to understand how to implement them in a match.
It’s pleasing to see so many of our young referees taking up the challenge for 2017 and I am looking forward to more joining them throughout the off season and into the new year.”
If you are interested in becoming a referee, Football NSW is holding an introductory course on Sunday 15th January 2017 at Valentine Sports Park as well as the following courses:
*NOTE: The Referee Level 4 is the first starting point for those who haven’t completed a referee course before
