What could be better than spending a day shooting goals with your friends and receiving free prizes? A day spent shooting goals, free prizes plus Santa Claus.

Football NSW were privileged to be a part of the 2017 Variety Children Christmas Party hosted at the Qudos Bank Arena on Tuesday 6th December, along with a wide range of other activity groups such as NBL side the Sydney Kings, Taronga Zoo, NSW Police and many more.

Game Development Officers Ed Ferguson and Zac Ribeiro were on hand throughout the day to test the majority primary school age children with their shooting against the Football NSW shooting target. The boys were supported by five official volunteers who had all given time out of their lives to assist Variety in conducting a truly special and memorable day for the 1000 plus disadvantaged children, their carers, parents and teachers.

Ferguson reflected on what was a heart-warming event enjoyed by all.

“Today was truly a spectacular event for the community of Sydney and I was proud to fly the flag for football.

“The noise, laughter, and excitement during the day was electrifying and we saw some pretty handy players take home top prizes by shooting through the targets.

“The excitement was not just from the children either, with parents, teachers and carers all stepping up to take a turn and impress the crowd.

“Today showed that football truly sets the standards amongst other sports, being inclusive to all of the community.”

The Football NSW team would like to encourage all players living with a disability to head to the Football4all home page to find out the closest place to play football for you, and be a part of a team ahead of the 2017 season.

Football NSW would like to thank Variety for including us in such a significant and important event in the calendar for many of these families and kids and look forward to returning next year, bigger and better than ever.

A special thanks go towards Sam Hardy, Sean Gill, Yasir Zia, Ben Davies and Kevin Zou who volunteered and made the day easier to manage and put thousands of smiles on these kids faces.
