Historic Futsal Course takes shape at Bathurst
In a first for the sport, Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez led the first ever Futsal Certificate Course and Licence in Western Branch last Friday evening held at Bathurst PCYC.
Twelve coaches from varying towns across the Western NSW area attended and were assisted with local players joining in for the practical sessions.
A number of the coaches in attendance will be representing Football NSW at the upcoming FFA Futsal National Championships holding in early January with leading roles as Head Coaches or Assistant Coaches with NSW Country teams.
This will be the third successive year that NSW Country teams will partake at the FFA Futsal National Championships.
Football NSW’s Regional Coach and Development Manager Andrew Fearnley reflected the growing support the sport of Futsal has received in the regional area and its been aided further thanks to courses such as this.
"The course was reflective of the growing stature of Futsal, and an increasing appetite for coaches to want to learn, contribute to the players’ development and develop themselves in this form of the game.
“The group were really engaged throughout the course and are keen to put into practice some new ideas presented from Oscar.”
Gonzalez further echoed Fearnley’s thoughts on what was a successful course.
"The effort country coaches makes never ceases to amaze me.
“Some coaches made a 5 hour round trip to do this course.
“Their willingness to participate and provide feedback was fantastic.
“The kids made a similar time commitment and ran non-stop.
“It was important for us to bring the courses to regional NSW in effort to make them more accessible to our member coaches.”
