MiniRoos was at it again throughout 2016, significantly increasing its presence in the community and providing more playing opportunities for young boys and girls to gain their first taste of the sport.

Football in 2016 became the largest club based sport in Australia and MiniRoos is at the forefront, introducing children from 3 to 11 years old to the world game.

Introducing children to football is not just about learning how to manipulate a ball, it is much more, with friendships, social skills, team work and enjoyment key factors that ensure players learn and develop with each contact they have.

MiniRoos was represented in Football NSW by 91,960 children taking to the field every Saturday or Sunday morning during the winter season. This staggering number and record high in Australia is made up of 73,733 active boys and 18,227 smiling girls.

The 2015 success of our Westfield Matildas had a significant impact on girls playing numbers with MiniRoos numbers up across the nation and we hope this translates into an even greater retention rate ahead of the 2017 season!

MiniRoos Kick Off continued on its assault to becoming one of the fastest growing and popular forms of introductory sports program with Football NSW boasting 45 MiniRoos Kick Off programs, including two Toddler specific programs. We are proud to also announce that all Football NSW MiniRoos Kick Off programs are delivered by grassroots football associations and clubs, providing a clear pathway for young interested hearts to continue their love for the game during the winter season under the guidance of the committed and passionate Football NSW football community and volunteers.

Football NSW would like to take this opportunity to thank AIA Vitality, sponsors of MiniRoos football since its launch in 2015. AIA Vitality lead the way in launching the national MiniRoos brand, providing a clear single vision for children’s introduction to football in it’s small sided format.

We are also extremely excited at welcoming new sponsors ALDI Supermarkets to the football family who will begin their sponsorship of the national brand in 2017.

MiniRoos has certainly grown to staggering heights with the brand presence and amount of football played by children across Australia increasing to record heights. 2017 appears to be no different with large growth expected with the inclusion of the newly formed Hills Inc. association taking to the field and the continued progress of the women’s game.

We hope all MiniRoos players, volunteers, coaches and parents have enjoyed the 2016 year and we look forward to welcoming you back for an even bigger, better and more enjoyable 2017.
