Wagga City Wanderers enjoy Sydney FC experience

It was a weekend to remember for the Wagga City Wanderers’ Under 10, 12, 14 and 16 Academy girls as they were treated to some fantastic football action as they took in the sights and sounds of the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League games of the Sky Blues.

In conjunction with Football NSW and Sydney FC, the lucky girls watched Sydney FC defeat Adelaide United 2-0 at Allianz Stadium on Friday evening as well as watching the W-League clash which saw the Sky Blues defeated 3-1 at the hands of the Newcastle Jets at Lambert Park on Saturday.

In a photo to remember, the girls then had a special photo taken with their W-League heroes from Sydney FC such as Kyah Simon, Teresa Polias, Caitlin Foord and Alanna Kennedy to name a few in what was a fantastic end to a memorable weekend for the squad.

Wagga’s Development Officer Liam Dedini praised the hard work and efforts Football NSW Servet Uzunlar and Sydney FC’s Community Development Officer Paul Reid put forward in making this dream come true for the lucky girls.

“I would like to express on my behalf as well as all the girls and their parents our gratitude to Sydney FC hosting us over the weekend.

“The girls had an absolute blast and appreciated everything.

“Paul thank you for supplying us the best seats in the house.

“Servet I have heard nothing but great reports. Everyone has expressed the time and effort you exposed going above and beyond to make the girls feel welcome.

“I thank you again and hope to organise something similar in the future.”

Uzunlar took pride in assisting this for the Wagga City Wanderers and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the smiles on all their faces after their Westfield W-League clash.

“It was great to be able to provide this special opportunity to our regional girls playing football.

“After speaking to some of the girls, it was clear what a positive impact meeting the players had on them.

“A handful of stark struck girls upon seeing the team said they’d hope to one-day play in the Westfield W-League.”

One such player that the Wagga girls held a close relationship was none other than a Wagga Wagga product herself in the Western Sydney Wanderers’ number one keeper, Jada Mathyssen-Whyman.

The 17-year-old has been firing for the Red and Black side and has been tipped by many pundits as becoming a future Westfield Matildas international in the not too distant future – a success story other players from the Wagga City Wanderers hope to follow.
