South West Slopes appoint Development Officer

South West Slopes Soccer Association (SWSSA) has announced that Mick Godbier has accepted the position of SWSSA Development Officer in 2017.

Godbier has had a long career with football as both a player and coach.

He commenced his football career as a talented 6-year-old with Cootamundra Junior Soccer and then progressed to the Cootamundra Strikers where his team won two Football Wagga Wagga (FWW) premierships.

In later years, Godbier turned to coaching where he has made an impressive contribution to football and player development within our own and other Associations.

Godbier has coached locally in the Cootamundra Junior Soccer Club; at a representative level for SWSSA where his U12 and U14 girls won three branch Championships, three Football NSW Country Cups and three PUMA Champion of Champion Tournaments; at Riverina level coaching the U14, U16 and U13 boys. He has also coached the Cootamundra Strikers 1st and Reserve Grade and Women’s 1st Grade teams.

Godbier also coached the Western NSW Mariners Women’s U 17s and 1st grade squads, which were Premiers and Grand Finalists in 1st grade in 2015 .

Coaching qualifications include community coaching courses (Grassroots, skills Acquisition and Senior Certificate) and the Youth component of the Senior ‘C’ Licence. He is currently completing the Senior component of the Advanced ‘C’ Licence.

Godbier is currently the head coach of the U20 Wagga City Wanderers team.

Godbier’s role is to strengthen the retention, engagement and development of football across the Association and we look forward to seeing his positive impact on our Association in 2017 and beyond.
