Football NSW’s Women’s Advanced Coach Education Manager Ante Juric recently presented topic 1 of his series of coaching presentations geared to coaches in female football held at Valentine Sports Park.

After various successful programs run by Football NSW and a number clubs during ‘Female Football Week’, Juric’s presentation and topic of ‘Coaching in Women’s Football’ was well received by the many participants on hand.

“The idea of this and the future presentations is to educate, inform and support our coaches within female football,” Juric stated to Football NSW.

“Providing them with an ongoing support network.

“Female football at all ages and all levels is growing in terms of player numbers and quality and level of play.

“So to support this and to promote this, it is important our coaches continue to develop and grow allowing them to have a big impact in developing our girls to even greater levels.

These presentations are ways where we can support in this development process.”

Specifically, the presentation looked at the physical and psychological differences and hence considerations for coaches and looking at the stages of training considerations for female players.

In addition to the theoretical component, the coaches were afforded time to observe up close and personal the NSW Institute coaches and players in action.

A special thanks to the players and the coaches of these girls Craig Foster (NTC Coach) and Leah Blayney (16s Football NSW Institute).

Juric identified the differences between how coaches would communicate between both male and female footballers.

“Although football is the same for males and females, therefore coaching the game of football is very similar if not the same.

“The important thing for the coaches is to understand that there are differences that may affect how we best need to communicate or how we can best adapt training to suit the differing physical and psychological needs.”

Former Westfield’s Matildas star and promising young female coach Catherine Cannuli was impressed with the quality of the workshop hosted at Football NSW headquarters.

“It was a great night to get all coaches that work in the female game, to be working closely with Ante we are very fortunate to have someone with his knowledge helping us along the way.

“Networking with coaches from all different clubs is a great way to get together brainstorm and work together to grow our beautiful game.

“We also watched the institute women’s teams train which was also great to see the quality coaching and players on display.”

The next presentation topic will be based around Modern Football Trends and the Coach/Player (Women’s Football).

Dates for all future presentations to be released shortly.
