Round 5 Preview – State League Women’s
Round 5 includes a number of intriguing match ups as Parramatta FC chase their first points of the year as they travel to UNSW while St George FC make the long trip out to face Western NSW Mariners FC and the undefeated SD Raiders FC head to Popondetta Park to face Mt Druitt Rangers FC.
UNSW vs Parramatta FC, David Phillips Complex, 3pm
Parramatta FC travel out to UNSW on Sunday as they look to register their first points of the year.
They will be in for a tough contest as UNSW have been competitive in all their outings so far and have been unlucky not to have picked up more points.
UNSW, coming off the bye, will see this as an opportunity to pick up a valuable three points and rise-up the table.
UNSW coach Renato Jelen will be aware of a desperate Parramatta FC though and will have his team primed for a tough contest.
Parramatta FC will be looking to provide a more resolute defensive effort as they look to earn their first points of the year and will be eager to start moving off the foot of the table.
Western NSW Mariners FC vs St George FC, Jack Brabham Park, 3pm
St George FC will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Mt Druitt in their last outing as they make the long trip out to face Western NSW Mariners FC.
St George FC coach Carlo Tini will be expecting a much improved performance from his team and will be aware the challenge the Western NSW Mariners FC present.
In contrast, Western NSW Mariners FC will be looking to continue the momentum they created from last Sunday’s big win over Parramatta FC and coach Jason Payne will be conscious his team must be more clinical in front of goals if they are to secure the three points.
This game shapes as being a very even contest with both these teams aware of the importance of three points this week.
Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC vs SD Raiders FC, Popondetta Park, 3pm
Undefeated SD Raiders FC make the trip out to Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC as they look to continue their undefeated ways.
They will come into this game after a tough draw in their last outing against fellow undefeated team APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC.
SD Raiders FC’s Catherine Cannuli will be pleased with the start of the year her team has made but will also be emphasising the importance of focusing on each week and continuing the positive momentum they have created.
Mt Druitt equally come into this game following a positive win away against a tough St George FC team last week.
Mt Druitt will be aware of the challenges that SD Raiders FC will offer and will know they need to be at their best so as to compete with the top of the table Raiders team.
In what promises to be an interesting contest both teams should provide a highly competitive and well contested fixture.
