Valentine Sports Park was the venue for a special training camp consisting of NSW and Northern NSW players as the Australian Under-17 Joeys hopefuls ran through their paces under the watchful eye of head coach and former Socceroo Tony Vidmar this week.
The three-day camp gave Vidmar and his coaching staff an ideal opportunity to scout through each player as the process of selecting his final squad was in full swing.
A number of the players on show from NSW have come through various PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clubs as they continue their development through the system with the hope of donning the green and gold jersey this year.
The final selection will be announced shortly and their first taste of a football tournament will be in July as the squad travel to Thailand to compete in the U15 AFF Friendly Tournament.
Following on from this pre-qualification tournament, the official AFC U16 World Cup Qualifiers will kick off in September in Mongolia where Australia have been placed in Group I and will take on the likes of Vietnam, Mongolia and Cambodia.
The ten (10) group winners and five (5) best second-placed teams will advance to the final stage of the tournament along with the host Member Association.
