The status quo remains at the top of PlayStation4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s as three of the top four secured victories while Central Coast Mariners continued their revival in our Match of the Round against Gladesville Ravens.

Match of the Round: Gladesville Ravens 0 defeated by Central Coast Mariners 2

Central Coast Mariners continue to build some momentum with goals to Georgia Davis and Oriana Keane’s five-minute salvo enough to get past a game Gladesville Ravens this afternoon at Peel Park.

The strikes came after a battling first half where both teams battled hard but there were no goals. Davis’ opener warmed up the contest after the break then Keane doubled the advantage four minutes later to continue the Mariners surge up the table.

The first chance of the contest typified how fierce the contest was as Jade McAtamney pounced on a loose ball before she fired it straight at Ravens keeper Kasia Glennie.

Kate Duffy got herself in the act a minute later as once again the Mariners pressed high and forced an error but couldn’t profit as Glennie mopped up the chance well.

Gladesville Ravens had their chances in the first half which came down the left wing as Isabella Breukelaar and Jemima Davidson combined well but the chance was snuffed out well by Mariners defenders in the box.

Two of the best chances in the contest fell to Gabrielle Branch. The first had the forward one-on-one wth Glennie but fired wide. Three minutes later once again, Blanch pounced but couldn’t profit as the game stayed nil-all.

Central Coast Mariners found their radar after the break – Oriana Keane controlled the ball well before she rifled a shot past a stationary Glennie to make it 1-nil to the visitors.

It didn’t take long for the Mariners to double their advantage as Georgia Davis got a due reward for her hard work across the contest. She was set up by first goalscorer Keane as the striker made it 2-nil with a well placed shot.

Ravens coach Jose De Costa rung the changes at the hour mark to try and reignite the Ravens. Energetic midfielder Celeste Loyzaga battled past two defenders before stinging Mariners keeper Jess Schultz hands with an effort.

Substitute Bronwyn Peddley had the best chance for the Ravens in the second forty-five with a tough effort at Schultz.

Overall though, the Mariners were good value for their victory as they comfortably controlled the second half and if the range was right could’ve done further damage.

Afterwards Ravens coach Jose De Costa lamented the slow start to the second half.

"It was a scrappy first half. In the second they came at us and scored the two goals. We improved after that and had chances but couldn’t put it in the back of the net." Said the Ravens boss.

Mark Yule on the Mariners bench was happy that the girls continued the momentum from last week.

"I was happy on a difficult pitch that they played well in that first half. We knocked a couple of goals in and could’ve had a few more." He said.

"It is all about momentum now. We have Nepean FC up next and after the unlucky start we have started to get on a roll." Yule finished.
