Parramatta FC part ways with Franco Cosentino

PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s side Parramatta FC have parted ways with head coach Franco Cosentino with the club appointing former club legend and ex-Socceroo Marshall Soper as the new man in charge until the end of the season.

Cosentino was appointed in 2014 as he led Parramatta FC back into the top flight but the club has found it tough in 2017 as the senior squad currently sit in twelfth position with five points as well as sitting in bottom position on the club championship ladder.

Soper, a former NSL legend, who made his name in the Australian game as a lethal marksman with the then Parramatta Melita Eagles playing 121 matches, has taken over the reins and will have the task of bolstering the club’s position on the table.

Soper made 372 appearances in the NSL scoring an incredible 129 goals as well as representing the Socceroos 42 times.

Apart from winning a flurry of Golden Boot and individual player awards throughout his football career, Soper switched his attention to coaching. Having held coaching and technical director positions at Wollongong United, APIA Leichhardt Tigers, Newcastle Jets, Coniston Lions as well as in Malaysia with the likes of Perak, DRB Hicom and Sungai Ara, Soper will hope to rejuvenate the Parramatta FC squad.

Granville & District Soccer Football Association CEO Mike Quarmby was looking forward to Soper’s time at the club.

“Marshall is a living legend at the club and was one of the stars of our beautiful game back in the NSL days but was a cult hero with the Parramatta faithful.

“We are really looking forward to Marshall’s arrival at the club and hope that he can kick off his coaching career with a win this Saturday against Rockdale City Suns.

“I want to take this time to thank Franco for his coaching services and would like to wish him all the best with his future coaching endevours.”
