Round 11 Preview – PS4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s

round11

As the competition leaders have the weekend off, it gives the rest of the top four a chance to build their case for finals football in another exciting weekend of PS4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s action.

The Match of the Round heads to Jensen Park for Bankstown City vs Central Coast Mariners.

Match of the Round: Bankstown City Lions vs Central Coast Mariners, Sunday 25th June, Jensen Park, 3pm

Bankstown City Lions sit fourth and aim to cement themselves in the top four as they host Central Coast Mariners this weekend at Jensen Park.

The Lions will be coming off a high as Alicia Lee’s late goal helped them overcome Nepean FC 2-1 while the Mariners rested up with the bye.

Troy Spink has some reshuffling to do to his line-up with Samantha Muscat and Doris Osman injured late in the game.

He has some capable goalscorers in Tania Baban and Sunny Lucien to deputise for the injured players.

Mariners are a well drilled side and have their own firepower in Oriane Keane and Georgia Davis who will keep Lions keeper Renee Krstanovska busy on Sunday.

The visitors sit five points outside the top four and if they pick up a scalp against Bankstown City will help Mark Yule’s ladies in their quest for finals football.

Marconi Stallions vs Nepean FC, Sunday 25th June, Marconi Stadium, 3pm

Marconi Stallions cling onto fifth position, three points outside the finals and face a stern test in Nepean FC at Marconi Stadium this weekend.

Both teams had less than ideal results last week as Nepean FC were defeated late 2-1 by Bankstown City as Marconi had a wild 3-3 draw down the south coast.

Kate Hensman has led the way in a tough season for Marconi Stallions and the striker’s combination with Joanne Burgess will be need to be clinical against a resolute Nepean FC defense.

Nepean FC boast the best defense in the competition which will hold them in good stead for the run into the finals against a gutsy Stallions side on Sunday afternoon.

Gladesville Ravens vs Inter Lions SC, Sunday 25th June, Peel Park, 3pm

Seventh takes on ninth in an vital match-up as both teams need to build some results to keep the dreams of finals football alive.

It was a weekend of losses for both sides as Gladesville and Inter both were kept to nil by competition heavyweights Sutherland Shire FA and Sydney Olympic FC.

Inter Lions were victorious back in round two 3-2 after a late surge from Gladesville Ravens made for tense viewing and hopefully a repeat is in store at Peek Park.

Both teams will be disappointed with their first half of the season and will want to finish the season strongly starting with a win this weekend.

Southern Branch FC vs Sydney Olympic FC, Sunday 25th June, South Nowra Football Complex, 3pm

Sydney Olympic FC has a chance to head to the summit of the PS4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s competition as they head down to Nowra to take on an improved Southern Branch FC.

The home side has proven hard to beat at home with draws in the last two weeks against Bankstown City and Marconi while Olympic continue on their winning ways with a 3-nil win against Inter Lions.

Danielle Calvi has been in red hot form in Olympic’s six game streak with goals in her last three games which would have coach George Beltsos happy with how they are trending towards the finals.

Southern Branch FC may not have collected many wins this season but they have battled hard which makes for an interesting contest between two vastly different sides.

Sutherland Shire FA has the bye
