Former Sydney Olympic star midfielder Max Burgess has scored himself a professional contract with Portuguese second division outfit Uniao de Madeira.

The 20-year-old had a magnificent start to his PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season with the Blues where he was the club’s leading playmaker after a handful of amazing displays for the former NSL giants.

Only a couple of rounds into the year, European clubs began to circle the talented Australian youngster and it was the Portuguese club that won the race in securing his services for the upcoming Portuguese football season.

Uniao de Madeira finished in third spot this year and will be looking at promotion which has certainly excited Burgess – that and the fact that the club is sponsored by the most famous Portuguese player at the moment, the national team captain and Real Madrid whiz Cristiano Ronaldo, who hails from the island of Madeira.

Max’s brother Darcy is still flying the flag for the Burgess brothers at Sydney Olympic as he hopes to play finals football in the state’s top tier competition and will no doubt be keeping his sibling updated with how the team is progressing.
