Jo Fernandes joins Football NSW
Football NSW is pleased to announce that one of Australia’s foremost and experienced football administrators, Mrs Jo Fernandes, has joined the organisation as the new Manager, Women’s and Girls Development.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the game, mostly in women’s football, the former Football Federation of Australia employee has participated in ten FIFA women’s tournaments, three Olympic Football Tournaments and several Asian and Oceania tournaments.
Jo was the Westfield Matildas’ Team Manager for 13 years which incorporated the 2003, 2007 and 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cups and 2000 and 2004 Olympics.
Her other roles with FFA included overseeing the Westfield W-League for four years and more recently the Club Licencing program and AFC Asian Champions League with the Hyundai A-League clubs and Asian Football Confederation.
Jo is also an AFC Match Commissioner and a FIFA General Coordinator and was responsible for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final between USA and Japan in Vancouver.
In welcoming Jo to the organisation, Football NSW Chief Executive Stuart Hodge highlighted Jo’s background and experience in the game and the ideal skill set that will benefit associations, clubs and the overall women’s game in NSW.
“Jo’s experience is second to none in this area and I am sure she will prove a valuable asset as we drive this important area of our game.
“Football NSW has some exciting initiatives planned for the women’s game, and combined with the recently announced Westfield Matildas matches against the Brazilian national team in September and the impending 2017/18 Westfield W-League season, Jo comes to us at an ideal time of our strategic direction.”
