Summer Football Season Launches in NSW

“Turn mates into teammates” that’s the message coming from Football NSW Member Services Manager Matt Rippon as the 2017/18 season looks set to become the biggest Summer Football season on record.

Last summer saw phenomenal growth with player registrations up to nearly 40,000 and a huge spike in the number of Football NSW Clubs and Associations conducting an affiliated summer football program jumping from 67 to 89 centres.

Rippon was delighted with the progress and potential Summer Football continues to have on the sport.

“There is also great potential for the Football Associations and Clubs to realise the benefits of Summer Football, continue their engagement with existing winter players through summer, attract new players to their Association/Club, and realise a new revenue source supplementing their traditional financial model and bringing an improved experience to their members.”

The accessibility for players also is becoming more apparent with at least one program in every Sydney-metro association with already another 10 new centres on the way for 2017/18.

Football NSW Associations Eastern Suburbs FA, Bankstown Football and St George FA along with PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues NSW heavyweights Bonnyrigg White Eagles were some of the nearly 20 new centres last year catering to the ever-increasing player demand.

“Football is comfortably the most popular sport in winter but now we are starting to see its footprint as one of the biggest summer sport offerings in NSW also.

“Summer Football provides Football NSW, the Football Associations and clubs an opportunity to engage a broader cross section of people, with possible benefits including the retention of the approx. 30% who don’t engage in winter football,” Rippon added.

Football NSW will once again offer support to all Clubs and Associations conducting affiliated Summer Football programs; firstly by maintaining no increase in player capitation fees from the past two seasons; as well as affiliation benefits such as insurance, access to referees, registration portal through MyFootballClub, competition management, disciplinary process, model regulations, equipment voucher and referee subsidies, Summer Football Champion of Champions and local area marketing for each centre.

Summer Football movers and shakers APIA Leichardt, Southern Districts SFA and Nepean FA are all raring to go and each aim to again break the 2000 participants mark with player registrations already underway.

Keep fit, keep your teammates and keep playing the beautiful game all year round.
