Football has a way of touching many people in many ways, and historic Inner West football club, Dulwich Hill FC, have found yet another way of supporting a very worthwhile cause with a fantastic initiative.

Dulwich Hill FC compete in the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s competition, and on Saturday, July 29, they welcome Dunbar Rovers FC to Arlington Oval for a Round 21 fixture.

Dulwich Hill FC have chosen to devote the day to supporting the McGrath Foundation, a charity which offers support and assistance to individuals experiencing breast cancer, as well as their families.

It is a fantastic initiative, and one that the entire football community should and could support in any number of ways.

Dulwich Hill will put aside their usual, mainly yellow strips, and wear a specially made pink playing strip, the jerseys of which will be available to be purchased via auction at half time.

Additionally, it will be quite simple to donate funds to the charity – you can click on the following link; and follow the prompts to support a great cause.

The club are hoping to raise at least $3,000 on the day, and the first grade playing squad have already got things moving well in advance, by committing to donate part of their match day payments towards this fantastic cause.

The day will be celebrated with a carnival atmosphere, with plenty of food and drink available throughout, as well as a ‘legends’ game between the two clubs at 6:15pm.

Dulwich Hill legends who will be donning the boots that night will include ex-NSL striker Norman Tome, goalkeeper extraordinaire Elvis De Marchi, Dully’s current assistant coach Marcus Frost, Peter Hubbard, and Ben Burrows amongst others. The Dunbar Rovers legends will include Danny Fee, Sam Tooley, David Pope, Matt Delves and Mat Demitriou in their line-up.

The Dulwich Hill Under 14s are also getting in on the act, and they too will be wearing an all pink strip when they get things going on July 29th at their 9:45am scheduled kick off against Sydney University FC.

A big thanks to both Dunbar Rovers and Sydney University who have agreed to a slight change to their scheduled kick off times in order to allow the legends game to go ahead.

There are always some very giving and hardworking people behind initiatives such as these, and this is no different.

The entire Dulwich Hill committee should be congratulated for agreeing to and endorsing such a special event in support of a cause that has touched many Australians.

The club’s goalkeeping coach, Trent Sweeney, is the brains trust behind the initiative, and has received able support from First Grade coach Mark Strachan, First Grade Assistant Coach Tony Valavanis and Under 14’s coach, Joe Sciberras – collectively they have been able to execute a list of action items in order to make sure the day is a raging success.

In response to Dulwich Hill’s initiative, Peter Hennessy, Director of the Dunbar Rovers has been a fantastic advocate of the day, and he and his club have jumped on board, making sure the club play their part in supporting the charity.

A special thanks as well to Anthony Trieste of Teamkit Australia, who have donated the playing strips, as well as FruitEzy and Honan Insurance for their support of the worthy event.

The match itself kicks off at 7pm, and will be a great spectacle for football, given the attacking prowess on show from both clubs.

Dulwich Hill are sitting in third position on the ladder, and have skipper Michael Frost in between the sticks, the dynamic Luke Giverin marshalling the midfield, and strikers, Tommy Bentham and Gosue Sama, ready to pounce in attack. Their match day opponents, Dunbar Rovers, have amongst others, the experienced Stephen Deasy manning their goalposts, the fierce Rocci Gabey guarding the backline, the diminutive Andrew Doddy and skiful Ryan Shaughnessy across the middle, whilst Tod Bamber will be ready to strike up front given any opportunity.
